Amber Lombok Beach Resort

A wonderful hotel with amazing breakfasts, a really beautiful beach, and decent massages. We ordered food from the restaurant a few times – it took a long time to arrive and tasted about 5/10, but the breakfasts were incredibly delicious and varied. The location isn't great if you plan on actively exploring the island, but if you're looking for solitude and just want to relax at the hotel, it's perfect. The nearest decent store (M-Mart) is about a 15-minute scooter ride away. There's nothing else nearby – no shops, no cafes. Within walking distance, there are only local stalls with a questionable selection of products. Its location proved inconvenient for island excursions; it took too long to get anywhere. About a 15-minute scooter ride away, there's a beach for beginner surfing, and from there you can also take a boat to more serious waves. Be aware that you can't call a Grab or Gojek taxi from the hotel; you'll have to use the hotel's transfer service, which charges triple the taxi fare. The hotel offers scooter rentals, but the price is also inflated. You could rent one for a day to get to Kuta and rent from locals there. We had a room with direct pool access, but we never swam in it. I don't recommend spending extra for it. The area around it seemed dubious, with lots of insects (mosquitoes, large spiders), several big lizards and geckos, and I even saw a rat jumping through the tree branches once.
