My stay at Grandemar Suites in Astypalea was nothing short of magical. I visited during the off-season, from 1–8 October, and from the moment I arrived, every aspect of the experience—from the impeccable service to the exceptional hospitality—exceeded my expectations. Maria and Mike are truly the heart and soul of this beautiful property. They are the kind of hosts one could only dream of, combining genuine warmth, thoughtfulness, and generosity in a way that makes you feel less like a guest and more like family. I stayed in the Merillo Suite, just a stone’s throw from the main square in Chora. While it did not offer a castle view, it more than made up for it with its private outdoor pool that had spectacular views overlooking the port, and the most beautiful sunrises to wake up to each morning. The suite itself was absolutely stunning, and the cave room on the ground floor was a highlight in its own right. With its beautiful cave-style bathrooms and indoor jacuzzi, it offered a wonderfully unique and indulgent experience. Breakfast was an experience in itself. Each morning, you are presented with a menu that you can personalise by selecting your favourites and even requesting additional items, which Maria always does her utmost to accommodate. Everything was fresh, delicious, and thoughtfully prepared, from the Greek-style eggs and perfectly made freddo espresso to the homemade pastries and freshly baked rolls. It was the kind of breakfast that made me look forward to waking up each morning. What truly sets Grandemar Suites apart, however, is the extraordinary hospitality. As a solo traveller, I was made to feel completely at home. On several occasions, Maria and Mike kindly offered me rides to the beaches I wanted to visit. They even welcomed me into their home for a home-cooked meal one day and invited me to join them and their friends for dinner on two other occasions. Maria also generously offered complimentary laundry services throughout my stay and helped arrange a quick tailoring fix for two dresses, again at no charge. These gestures went far beyond anything one could reasonably expect from a host. They transformed an already wonderful stay into something genuinely unforgettable. Having travelled to more than 30 Greek islands, I can honestly say that Grandemar Suites is one of the most special places I have ever stayed in Greece. Astypalea has become one of my most memorable islands, and so much of that is thanks to Maria and Mike and the beautiful experience they created. The property itself is stunning, but it is the warmth, kindness, and countless personal touches that make it truly exceptional. Staying here felt less like checking into a hotel and more like having a beautiful home away from home on one of Greece’s most enchanting islands. Astypalia is a beautiful island. From the moment we got there, We were met by the owner Maria. She picked us up and took us to her suites. They are amazing. We would wake up every morning to a beautiful breakfast served in the villa. The staff were amazing. Nothing was too much trouble. We also went on the most beautiful yacht owned by Maria and Mike, we got served an amazing lunch and swam in the most beautiful waters I would highly recommend staying at the grand mar suites thank you so much, Maria and Mike

It was a great experience. The hotel is perfect, the suites are very comfortable with tasteful and charming décor. There is everything we need to have a great stay. The beds are just perfect. Location is ideal, very close to the center of Chora and the restaurants. The views from the rooms are wonderful, the harbor, the sea and the whole Chora city (small one) are in front of us. Special mention for our host, Maria. So welcoming, so kind and she supported us for our activities (eg a wonderful boat cruise). Many thanks to you. Another special mention for her crew. The cooker prepared marvelous breakfasts with typical greek meals. It was more than delicious, the breakfasts were a lovely moment every morning, The woman in charge of cleaning was very attentive and everything was perfect, right down to the little details that make all the difference. My husband and I were blown away by this property! We were able to stay in 2 of the 3 units and literally couldn’t believe our eyes. Every detail is gorgeous and well thought out, the view is insane and the service was impeccable. I loved the products! Breakfast is brought to you daily when you request and it’s so much delicious food. They were able to book transportation for us, reservations for dinner and boat trips. plus, they gave us great ideas for day trips around the island. I’m already planning to go back with friends...hopefully this time next year!

This place was unreal! The best place to catch the sunsets and sunrises just from your balcony with views of the entire town! Captain Mike and his wife Maria were amazing hosts from being our personal drivers to making sure we saw the very best of the island! I will definitely be back and stay at the GrandeMar on this beautiful island!

Stunning stay in this villa. Great service, superb location, exceptional views, impeccable all round. We were so well looked after by Maria and this villa is a must see. Highly recommended and an outstanding place.

I feel so lucky to have discovered and spend a couple of days at this exquisite villa with spacious rooms, great living spaces indoor and outdoors. Every last detail has been carefully selected and thought out, from the design of the furniture to the toiletries, the pillows and comfortable mattresses to the Netflix equipped TV. Michalis and Maria, the owners are so hospitable and caring, so thoughtful and full of positive energy. A place to remember and to recommend!
