Perhaps the poor cousin to the beaches in southern Sri Lanka, Trincomalee, on the mid east coast, is a magnificent coastal town. And to spend quality time here, you'll need a great place to stay and we recommend Hotel Natraj. Hosts, Mr. Sura and Mr. Niroshan, are magnificent humans - excellent English speakers, wise about the local area, interested in life, and good fun. We were welcomed warmly, and looked after very well, for our 5 night stay. And, the price is very reasonable. Hotel Natraj is directly opposite the very popular Fernando's Bar area, which is right on the shore of the beach however, whilst we recommend the tacos at the Mexican cafe, and a refreshing beer from the bar, don't forget to 'share the love' at many other outlets around town, all within a gentle walk. Notable recommendations include beachside dinner at Your Choice restaurant, and breakfast and coffee at Capital Cafe,. which is directly next door to Hotel Natraj. Check out the classy clothing stores next to Hotel Natraj as well. Sura and Niroshan will give plenty of tips on what to do locally - whale watching, snorkelling/diving, Fort Frederick ........ so much to do. Use Hotel Natraj as your base -happy days.
