Tholaria was fabulous! Perfect getaway to a magical Greek island! We arrived on the ferry from Kos, and dear Maria was there to pick us up and transport us to her lovely hotel. Maria was so kind and helpful throughout our stay. Leeza also was terrific and offered lots of suggestions of things to do. She was also there to tell us about the daily breakfast offerings. Everything was delicious! Lots of choices, great coffee, fresh orange juice. Our room was lovely and had a view of the sea and castle. The hotel is an easy walk to the chora where we enjoyed our dinners. We also spent a day on the owner's yacht, which was beautiful and memorable with gorgeous swimming stops, etc. Don't miss it!! On our last day the winds were whipping and I was very concerned about motion sickness. They kindly sent Mike off on his scooter to buy me some medicine at the pharmacy. The entire staff went above and beyond to help me and make sure I was comfortable. Their kindness was greatly appreciated. We hope to return to Astypalea again! Thank you for everything!

Fabulous 4 night stay at the family run Tholaria with our lovely hosts Maria Mike and Litka (and of course Lou the Kokoni) Booked the Kyma Room which was just perfect : spacious well appointed comfortable clean with amazing views over the bay and the Castle from our large veranda Traditional homemade breakfast where a perfect way to start the day and a fabulous pool a perfect way to end the day with a splash and some relaxation No faults whatever this was an idyllic place to stay just a 10 min stroll to the “Windmalls”’supporting several bars and restaurants and 10 minutes hike to the closer beach (suggest heading the the far end) where the pebbled beach has clear waters and free sun beds at a fee beach bars Would highly recommend this place Just a note this would not be suitable for anyone with restricted mobility as there are several steps to most rooms and the surrounding area as some elevation

Staying here felt less like booking a hotel and more like being welcomed into a warm Greek family home. From the very firs moment, the team went above and beyond - insisting on collecting us from the ferry at 2am (even though we had our own car!) just to make sure we didnt get lost or stressed. That level of care set the tone for everything that followed. Each morning started with a delicious breakfast, where Maria personally introduced and explained local specialties to every guest - turning a simple meal into cultural experience, alongside the familiar continental breakfast options. The setting of the hotel is just as special: peaceful and perfectly located between a lovely beach and the main town, both an easy walk away. Add in beautiful views of the sea and castle, a refreshing pool, a spacious and spotless room with a balcony, full of authentic greek charm - and you have everything you need to truly unwind. But what makes this place unforgettable is the atmosphere: thoughtfully run, genuinely welcoming, and full of heart. By the end of our stay, we didnt feel like visitors - we felt like part of the family. Highly recommended!!! ☀️🫶

Firstly, Astypalea is a wonderful peaceful island but I would call it 'no frills' - if you are expecting 5 star flashy hotels you will not find them here! It was perfect for us, we wanted peace and quiet with no nightclubs and loud music. It is a very authentic greek island. We met many greeks and Italians but only one other english couple. We were very happy with this little family run hotel. In the UK we would probably call it a B&B. Maria, Mike and Litza could not have made our stay better. It is located within a 6 minute walk of the main Chora with a choice of nice restaurants and bars and about a 10 minute steep walk down to Livadi beach. We are both in our mid 60's and enjoyed the walk up and down most days. There are a lot of steps in the hotel so if you can't manage them make sure you have a room on the reception level. The room was very nice, (Imeroviglie) with a nice bathroom and we had a verandah with a small jacuzzi pool (which we didn't use). The view of the sea and castle was stunning. The A/c worked well, we had clean towels everyday if we needed them and sheets were changed every few days. The provided a bottle of water on arrival and there was a fridge and tea/coffee making facilities. The hotel was very clean and quiet. There is a small swimming pool but no gym, as advertised on their website. The breakfast was delicious with a wide selection of freshly made greek pastries and bread daily, fresh local yoghurt, honey and fruits, as well as cold cuts, cheese and eggs. The fresh orange juice was delicious. We went on a day trip on Mike's boat, which was really nice and worth every penny not to be too crowded. We were given a lovely snack and lunch was spaghetti with huge prawns. What a lovely family they are, they couldn't do enough to make our stay welcome - I would highly recommend staying here. Thank you for making our 12 night stay so relaxing.

We stayed in Spa Suite Armeno for 10 wonderful sunny days. We had direct access to the swimming pool which we used several times every day, so peaceful and quiet. The Greek buffet breakfast had a great selection of home made cakes, pies sweet and savoury, yoghurt, fresh fruit and eggs to name but a few. By the time we finished breakfast the room had been cleaned! We would like to thank every one at Tholaria for looking after us so well. Don't miss out on Mike's VIP boat trip on the beautiful Merilo, a great day out.

Ahhh Tholaria. I can't say enough about our experience at this beautiful hotel. From the moment Maria picked us up at the airport until our shuttle return 5 day's later everything was fabulous. The location-perfect! The breakfast - so much care and attention to detail. The room- so comfortable and stunning views. Maria was available to answer any question we had and Mike was a wonderful boat captain! Be sure and take advantage of the "gold" rate where your yacht day is included in the price of the room. It is so WORTH IT! Any issue we had with our room or stay was addressed right away. I went on a mother/daughter trip to celebrate my 60th birthday and we created some incredible memories. Thank you Maria and Mike! We felt very cared for during our stay.

Tholaria Boutique Hotel looks much better in the photos than in real life. The hotel is tired and old and many things breaking or not working in the rooms including the air conditioner. The beds feel very old and not comfortable. There’s also not a great vibe as you feel like you’re walking through someone’s lounge room every time you enter the hotel with the staff sitting around watching TV in a dark room with the blinds closed. A very uncomfortable experience and would not return.

The hotel has 'local colour ' features and is perfectly located in the Chora. Our room had a fantastic sea view overlooking a small cove. Breakfast had new additions daily using local products as much as possible. Above all Maria is the most pleasant and accommodating host ever!!!! Always there to assist with anything, with the most pleasant smile!!

We chose this hotel – ‘boutique’ in size as I would dare to say of all the others in this lovely island – because of its location, almost exactly midway between the famous mills with the nearby restaurants in the heart of Chora town and Livadia, the main ‘fully-serviced’ beach in the island, both being about a 5 to 10 min. short walk from Tholaria. As a family of 4 with teenager twins, we stayed in the Tholos suite, with a ‘regular’ bedroom and another one in a mezzanine configuration for the kids. The suite was quite comfortable and very nicely decorated, and the whole propriety overall very well taken care of. There is a small pool with stunning sea views, which only the kids used once or twice during our stay. Special mention to the owner Maria, always very kind and available, even giving herself the trouble of proudly explaining to her guests the choices (mostly different every day) available in their ‘Greek-certified’, superior-quality breakfast. If I could advance any suggestions, maybe breakfast could be made available a little earlier than 9 am and I would also recommend more ‘liberality’ in providing the excellent (fresh) orange juice served at breakfast (being myself well aware of how hard it must be to properly manage at a profit such a small-scale and very seasonal business). Overall, good value for money and highly recommended!
