Join us for an evening badger watch at the spectacular Falls of Clyde Wildlife Reserve. Meet at our visitor centre and join the ranger on a woodland walk to our secret badger sett, looking for tracks, trails and signs along the way! We will wait for emergence of the badgers at our specially constructed badger watching benches in the heart of the reserve, overlooking one of our well used setts. Enjoy the chance to view badgers, bats and other nocturnal creatures as well as the oportunity to connect with nature in the tranquil woodland. Other stuff: This event is suitable for children aged 8 and above. It's around a 30-45 minute walk to the sett (Approx 1 mile) Our badgers are not captive or fed and are free to roam the reserve as they please. Although we have a very good success rate with our badger watches they are wild creatures and seeing them is not gauranteed. Stout footwear is recommended, and please dress for the weather as this event will be fully outdoors. Beyond the season is a short course for parents and coaches who want to know how to support their young athletes over the summer holidays and into pre-season training. It will give you the practical adivce you need regarding exercise, growth and recovery to name a few, to help build a strong return and reduce injury risk. Over the course of the day we’ll use ancient techniques to weave a round basket roughly 30cm diameter, 10-15cm tall using foraged and farmed materials (mostly willow). All tools and materials will be provided. This is a fun, relaxed introduction to weaving, with no prior experience necessary (but please be aware that manual dexterity is required – while it is still possible to weave with arthritis, it can be challenging). These classes will be taught by Max, aka Seileach Basketry, who has been weaving for the past four years now. For Max, weaving is a meditative, satisfying task, and a perfect combination of beauty, functionality and connecting with nature. Susan McMillen trained in Contemporary Art Practice in the city of Glasgow. She has exhibited in Glasgow, Dundee and many local venues. Her most recent exhibition was a group exhibition at Langloch Farm (CCI) as part of the Little Biggar Arts festival. Susan also works as an art tutor and runs local art groups. Her work is varied but her main influence is nature. She is a keen En Plein Air painter and many of her artworks reflect her love of the outdoors. Susan works with a variety of mediums to create her expressive semi-abstract landscapes. During this workshop Susan will share her working process and help you to create your own abstract landscape painting in mixed media. This workshop is suitable for all levels from beginner to advanced and all materials will be supplied. NB: Please wear suitable clothing as some painting materials can stain clothes. The class will run from 10.30am – 12.30pm then 1pm – 3.30 pm. The class is for adults only. This Gather Sewing Retreat will take place on 19th - 20th September 2025 at New Lanark Mills, a spa hotel in the heart of a beautifully restored 18th Century cotton mill village, 1 hour from both Edinburgh and Glasgow. Your hosts Victoria Nutt and Jen Hogg will be on hand to guide you through your chosen projects for two days of sewing, chat, and lots of laughs along the way. This is an opportunity to stay and sew in a Unesco World Heritage Site fundamental to Scotland's rich textile history. Including: Arrival pastries, lunch, three course dinner menu, and on day two, breakfast and afternoon tea. Plus tea, coffee and sweet treats throughout and a luxury sewing goody bag. The Sewing room is situated in one of the historic mills, with tall windows looking out onto the Clyde and the forests beyond. Itinerary: Day 1: Arrive from 9.00am for tea, coffee and pastries. Sewing all morning until 12:30/1.00pm. Following lunch in the hotel restaurant we will head back to the sewing room for our afternoon session. We'll meet for a glass of Prosecco at 6.30pm in the hotel bar. A full three course dinner menu and drinks will be served from 7pm giving you time to enjoy the fabulous spa facilities and New Lanark village beforehand. Day 2: After breakfast on day 2 we will head back to the sewing room. Afternoon tea will be served in the restaurant at 12:30 followed by our final sewing session, departing at 4.00pm. Jen and Victoria will be on hand to help and advise throughout the retreat. You will be invited to a zoom meeting in advance of the retreat, so we can all meet virtually and chat about what you are planning to sew. This also gives us an opportunity to find out what you'd like to learn so we can tailor the retreat to the group. Victoria has years of experience as a dressmaking tutor and owns Little Rosy Cheeks selling inspiring sewing labels and popular children's sewing patterns. The Hotel: New Lanark Hotel sits at the heart of the spectacular 18th Century cotton mill village of New Lanark . The village and mills were run by Robert Owen, a socialist keen to support worker welfare and education. He described his work at New Lanark as “the most important experiment for the happiness of the human race that has yet been instituted in any part of the world”. New Lanark became a World Heritage Site in 2001 - one of only 6 in Scotland. It sits close to the spectacular Falls of Clyde, amid elegant forests. It can be reached within an hour from both Glasgow and Edinburgh, and there is a train station nearby in Lanark.
