A Night With Burns And Pascoli | Glasgow City Chambers
May 6, 2025 (UTC+0)
Chambers
Telling the imaginary story of an encounter (in the afterlife!) between Scotland’s bard, Rabbie Burns and the great Italian poet from Lucca, Giovanni Pascoli, the hour-long drama will be performed live for the first time on the night promising laughs, gasps, and food for thought along the way. Giovanni Pascoli was a 19th century Italian poet. What does he have in common with Scotland's national bard, Robert Burns? Virtually nothing it seems: different times, contrasting character, and varying poetic styles. When cosmic circumstances bring the two men together, these icons are set on a collision course: during an electrifying encounter, the two men, with their starkly different poetry and personalities, must settle their differences.Drizzled with poetry and music, ‘Rabbie & the Italian Poet’ is an insightful, thought-provoking and often hilarious theatre show that will educate and enthuse in equal measures. The event begins with a drinks + nibbles reception sponsored by the City Council and will be followed by an opportunity to mingle with the cast and chat about the themes and subjects raised on the night. Only 70 tickets are available due to the dimensions of the Satinwood Suite. There will be donation envelopes at the tables for the Lord Provost Charity'fundraiser. The event is included in the activities organised for the Glasgow 850 years anniversary.
