Carlsbad
Join the Campana Studios Paper-Making Workshop in Carlsbad for a unique opportunity to create your own paper from scratch. Led by local artist Maya VanderSchuit, this workshop will teach you the fundamental techniques, materials, methods, and tools needed for recycled paper making. Through hands-on practice, you will learn how to prepare raw materials, employ basic coloration methods, and form pulp. The workshop will focus on creating individual molded sheets of paper that can be transformed into various holiday-themed items such as cards, tags, and pendants.
Maya VanderSchuit is an interdisciplinary artist and educator with expertise in digital-video projection, fiber-arts, photography, and mixed-media installation. She holds an MFA from the University of California, San Diego and a BA from the University of San Diego, with a double major in Visual Arts and Art History. Currently, VanderSchuit serves as a continuing lecturer for the University of California, San Diego's Culture Art and Technology Program. Her work involves the transformation of recyclables into paper, which reflects her exploration of materiality, surface relationships, and environmental concerns.
Please note that this workshop is limited to 10 participants, so registration is required. The Cultural Arts Department of the City of Carlsbad and the San Diego County Board of Supervisors are proud sponsors of this event. Campana Studios, a nonprofit grassroots organization dedicated to fostering community engagement among visual artists, is hosting the workshop.
