The 2nd annual Gelfand Gallop is an exciting community color powder run that supports the Debra Gelfand Children's Foundation. Taking place on Sunday, September 17th at Richard E. John’s Park in Glenview, this event is a fun-filled family fundraiser benefiting The Debra Gelfand Children’s Foundation. Participants will have the opportunity to experience a vibrant and energetic run, as they get covered from head to toe in safe, food-grade, biodegradable cornstarch colors. By the time they reach the finish line, they will be adorned in a stunning array of warm and cool hues. Runners can choose between a one or two-mile course, and there is even a 50-yard mini-dash for children ages five and under! All participants will receive a t-shirt and a “goodie bag”. In the event of inclement weather, the Gelfand Gallop will be rescheduled to October 1, 2023. The first color dash will start at 8:30am, with check-in opening at 7:45am. The second color dash will begin at 10:30am, with check-in opening at 9:45am. Additionally, there will be a mini-dash at 8:30am prior to the start of the first color dash, exclusively for children aged five and under. Register by August 31st to secure your t-shirt, as after that date, t-shirts will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Great Lakes Taekwondo United is excited to announce their upcoming event, GTU 3 Cross Training, taking place in Glenview, Illinois. This will be the third installment of their highly successful cross training sessions. The previous training was a huge success, with $5,000 in awards given out. GTU 3 is set to be even bigger and better, as it has been extended to a two-day event due to popular demand. GTU is an organization dedicated to uniting Taekwondo athletes in the Great Lakes Region. Their mission is to provide education, training, and financial support for athletes competing at local, national, and international levels. This cross training event will be a great opportunity for athletes and coaches to train alongside each other, fostering unity and collaboration within the region. The event will take place on December 9th and 10th at Attea Middle School, located at 2500 Chestnut Avenue, Glenview, IL 60026. Athletes participating in the training will need to bring their sparring gear, kick paddles, water, lunch, and most importantly, their passion for Taekwondo. The training sessions will cover Olympic Sparring, Sport Poomsae, Point Sparring, and PARA Athletes. Participants must pre-register for the event as registration will not be available at the door. The cost is $125 for athletes for the full two-day event, and spectators can attend for $15 for both days. Fresh off his return from Mexico, where he attended the WT International Sport Poomsae Referee Refreshers Course, Master Ray is excited to bring his newly acquired knowledge to the Midwest region. This camp is the perfect opportunity for poomsae athletes to kick off their training for the upcoming 2024 competition season. Taking place at the AKYI Martial Arts venue in Glenview, Illinois, the camp will be held on February 3rd and 4th. Saturday will consist of intensive training, drills, a breakdown of each poomsae, and fundamental techniques. On Sunday, athletes will have the invaluable opportunity to perform in front of experienced referees and judges, who will provide additional feedback and support. Welcome to the 2024 Central Region AAU National Qualifier, a highly anticipated event taking place on May 11, 2024. This event is open to all athletes and coaches who possess a current AAU membership in good standing. To renew your AAU membership, please visit the official website. Coaches are required to wear the AAU-approved blue coaching polo, which can be ordered online. Please note that no shirts will be sold at the door. We are proud to offer a range of exciting divisions for participants, including Olympic Sparring, Sport Poomsae, WT Forms, Traditional Forms, and Board Breaking. Olympic Sparring will feature KPNP equipment, and all ages and divisions are welcome. Sport Poomsae divisions, including Intermediate, Advanced, and Black Belt, will require athletes to adhere to specific uniform guidelines. Please refer to the official website for detailed information. WT and Traditional Forms divisions are open to all ages and belts, with no specific uniform requirements.
