This event developed from the first iteration of ‘Artists Mentoring Curators’, which emerged within a conversation between American artist Ellen Gallagher and Primary’s curator, Jade Foster. In place of a traditional speech, Ellen and Jade discussed how artists mentoring curators could contribute to a more conscientious, contentious and intimate arts ecology for the future. We welcomed Ellen back to the Midlands, marking 25 years since her first UK solo exhibition at Ikon Gallery in the winter of 1998. Welcome to our Spring flowers in watercolour workshop! Join us at Yellow Wood Cafe for a creative and relaxing session where you can let your artistic side shine. This in-person event in a small group of 6 is perfect for beginners and seasoned painters alike. The session is designed to get you excited about the wonderful medium of watercolour, appreciate the mindfulness aspect of the practice and equip you with lots of valuable tips to help you with your future paintings. Fresh flowers and reference photos will be available on the day to draw inspiration from. The workshop will begin with analysing shapes of individual flowers in various stages from bud to fully open and we will take note of how the flowers are lit by ambient light.
