Nice hotel We chose the apartment one. We arrived very late (or very early) : 7am and we didn’t get trouble We also had (by our request) free checkout for this reason. The apartment got two bathrooms and a huge fully equipped kitchen (useful if you like to cook). Swimming pool is small and the massage was not as good as expected. Breakfast has a huge and various choices

The service was excellent. Our room was very clean and tidied daily. The restaurant was decent. Its location is great, with all major attractions within walking distance. Plus, there's a fantastic dessert shop right next door! My only suggestion would be to add felt pads to the restaurant chairs, as guests on lower floors might hear them being dragged around early in the morning.

It's good to be able to receive service in Japanese, but when there is a small problem, the receptionist and their colleague complain in Vietnamese in front of the guests, making it seem like it's the guests' fault, so I think it's best to refrain from doing so because it makes the other services look bad and makes people feel bad. I can understand Vietnamese but chose to ignore it, but I think it would be bad for people who don't understand Vietnamese to be spoken to with a displeased look on their face. Afterwards, I went to the cat cafe next to the hotel to relax.

This was on top of my bed, and I don’t wanna know what it is. The water bottle in the room was basically empty so I had to buy my own. Other than that it was good. I even did some cooking in the kitchen, the smart tv was great too I was able to watch my movies and go on YouTube. The highlight was the receptionist, very nice and kind. They should make sure the room is very clean before a guest arrives but I’d be willing to go there again. 👍🏽

Sapa Hotel was the best among the three hotels we stayed at during our 6-night trip to Vietnam. The reception team (two ladies and one gentleman) were incredibly warm and treated us like family. They asked about our plans and even gave great local advice. One rainy night, when all the hotel umbrellas were in use, one of the staff kindly lent us her personal umbrella — such a thoughtful gesture! We also tried their breakfast for two days, and the spread was excellent — a good mix of carbs, fruits, and meats. The room was spacious and had everything we needed. The location is perfect — just a short walk to Sapa Lake, Sapa Station, the Stone Church, and VietTrekking Café. There are also many restaurants nearby with various price ranges. The rooftop view is beautiful too. Highly recommended!

This was such a pleasure to stay in! The check in and out process was quick. I loved the space of the room, the kitchen was equipped with crockery and a big fridge. The bed was very comfortable, and the view from the room was stunning in the day at night - looking over the lake and city. It has a spacious shower that is easy to use, and the shower gel and shampoo smelt so great! There is a gym upstairs, as well as a laundry room to wash and dry your clothes in the dryer that was super helpful for me. Breakfast was delicious, not a massive spread but still enough to be satisfied and tastes good too. The area surrounding this location has restaurants, coffee shops and a lake, as well as a shopping street. I was also able to have a late check out and was super grateful for that as my flight was later. Thank you for such a lovely time!

Hanoi Quan Ba Dinh Hotel Guide

Hanoi is a city of layers—of history, culture, and everyday life. Streets buzz with scooters and food carts, while temples, lakes, and colonial buildings offer moments of calm. Visitors are drawn here for many reasons: affordable hotels, flavorful street food, nearby nature escapes, and a compact layout that makes it easy to explore. Whether you're planning a cultural deep dive or just want to slow down and soak in the energy of the city, Hanoi makes it easy to do both.

Now, let’s look at how to get around and move between its neighborhoods with ease.

How to Get Around in Hanoi?

Hanoi: Tây Hồ

Hanoi’s transportation system may feel chaotic at first—but once you get the hang of it, it’s surprisingly flexible. The city doesn’t have a metro (yet), but with its buses, taxis, motorbikes, and rideshare options, getting from one district to another is affordable and manageable.

Airports and Key Transit Hubs in Hanoi

Hanoi is served by one main airport—Noi Bai International Airport (HAN)—located about 30 km north of the city center. It handles both international and domestic flights and is well-connected via private cars, shuttles, and taxis. For travelers seeking convenience, several hotels near Noi Bai International Airport or offering shuttle services, ensure a smooth transition to and from your flight.

Transport within Hanoi

Public Buses
The cheapest option, with fares from 7,000–10,000 VND. Routes cover most of Hanoi, but signage and schedules are mostly in Vietnamese.

Taxis
Widely available and reasonably priced. Use trusted companies like Vinasun or Taxi Group, or ask your hotel to call one. Starting fare is around 11,000 VND.

Xe Om (Motorbike Taxi)
A fast and local way to get around. Short trips start at around 10,000 VND—book using the Grab app for convenience and price transparency.

Cyclos (Pedicabs)
A traditional and slow-paced way to explore the Old Quarter—great for short scenic rides.

Private Transfers
For airport pickup or intercity travel, many travelers book private cars in advance. Reliable, comfortable, and especially useful for first-time visitors or those with luggage.

Where to Stay in Hanoi?

Hanoi: Sidewalk Cafe

Hoan Kiem: The Heart of Hanoi

Centered around the iconic Hoan Kiem Lake, this area is bustling with energy—historic sites, boutique shops, street food stalls, and lively bars. It’s perfect for first-time visitors who want to be steps away from major attractions like the Old Quarter, Ngoc Son Temple, and Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre.

Best for: First-time visitors, foodies, and those who love walkable urban exploration.

Hai Ba Trung: Local Flair with Modern Energy

A blend of local markets, hip cafés, and up-and-coming restaurants, this district offers authenticity with fewer tourists. Close to the French Quarter and Truc Bach Lake.

Best for: Budget travelers, food adventurers, and those wanting a local experience.

Long Bien: Rustic Riverside & Old Hanoi Charm

A time-capsule district across the Red River, where crumbling French warehouses meet banana plantations and sunrise markets. Explore the predawn Long Bien wholesale market, cycle through farmland paths, or sip trà đá at gritty riverfront cafés with postcard views of the city.

Best for: Adventurer, photographers, and travelers seeking Hanoi’s raw, pre-tourism soul

What to Do in Hanoi?

Hanoi: St.Joseph’s Cathedral

Hanoi is a city of contrasts—temples next to trendy cafés, tranquil lakes near noisy markets. Whether you’re here for history, food, or just the feeling of the city, Hanoi offers a full range of must-see places and local experiences.

Hoan Kiem Lake: The Soul of the City

Explore narrow streets filled with vendors, scooters, and shops. Then escape to the calm of Hoan Kiem Lake, where locals do morning tai chi and couples stroll under the trees. Don’t miss Ngoc Son Temple, right in the middle of the lake.

Thang Long Imperial Citadel: A Walk Through Royal History

Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this former political center of Vietnam includes ancient gates, relics from different dynasties, and hidden wartime bunkers.

Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum: A Monument of Memory

A solemn and important stop, this is where the preserved body of Vietnam’s iconic leader rests. Visit early in the morning and pair it with a walk through Ba Dinh Square and the nearby Presidential Palace.

Cat Ba Island: Forests, Beaches, and Hidden Caves

For something quieter than Halong, Cat Ba offers nature trails, limestone cliffs, and the chance to kayak through tranquil coves. Reachable by bus + ferry from Hanoi.

GGrey~HedgeThis hotel is a great place to stay, highly recommend it! The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, from the receptionists to the breakfast staff. They always were kind, passionate and went the extra mile to make sure a great experience. The room on the 9th floor had a nice view and rooms seems recently renovated. It’s clean and comfortable (However, presumably the noise isolation may not be that good, if close to the restaurant floor due to the movement of chairs). The breakfast is delicious and offers a variety of warm options, including traditional Vietnamese Pho, breads, fruits, and salad. The location of the hotel is convenient. It’s not in the old quarter, but it’s still within walking distance of many attractions. You can walk to Old Qaurter/Hoan Kiem Lake in about 20 minutes, where you’ll find a variety of shops, cafes, and restaurants (and night markets on Friday, Saturday, Sunday). The prices in the area close to hotel are also lower than in the old quarter that sometimes is tourist-focused; such as Che Xoan Quan. Likewise West Lake (Ho Truc Bach), is about a 15-minute walk from the hotel which can be good for a stroll or a relaxing day of cafes, such as Oleoleo cat cafe.

GGaryThe welcome here was great 👍. All staff are enthusiastic & helpful. The room, while compact, was more than adequate. Although my booking described city views so I was disappointed my room had no windows. Also the shower hot water was a little erratic but generally good. The bed was very comfortable and ensured restful sleeps. Breakfast was a substantial treat. The woman overseeing breakfast service was exceptional in meeting the demands of all guests. Location is very good for easy access to all attractions and amenities. I wanted to stay longer but couldn't get another booking due to the popularity of this establishment. I'd stay here again but would try to get a window next time. 👍

GGuest UserIt is a 5-minute walk to the bus stop for bus number 86 to Noi Bai Airport. There are many convenience stores and restaurants nearby, making it convenient for tourists. The staff were all friendly and helpful, but the fact that some of the water in the room is free and some is paid seems like it could be a problem. It would be nice if there was a price posted in the room.
