the best thing about yundu is the dog that greets you as you enter. it is a ball of cloud with so much energy and playfulness. communicating with them was fairly okay--but perhaps some translation got misinterpreted, which resulted into miscommunication. but issues were resolved quickly, and in the end, we were quite pleased with their service. location wise is great. it is walking distance to the ancient town through the new road. unfortunately, my mother couldn't walk far so we didn't manage to explore this route. cleanliness was generally good with some spots that needed more attention. there were bird feathers and a couple of flies in the room when we checked in but we managed to take care of that ourselves. the tea set was lovely and delicious. breakfast was great. we love simple chinese breakfast of mi xian and some side dishes. the soy milk was also delicious. restaurant area is lovely with a view looking out to a field of tall grass. gym and laundry area were a bit weird and neglected--they probably should look after that area better. also we had to do our own laundry, which was rather strange for a boutique hotel. we got our laundries taken care of by other hotels and this was the only one where we had to do our own. the photo shoot area was nice though and they also had great selection of clothes that we could borrow. we had lots of fun doing our own photo shoot there.

Staff were v helpful snd friendly- initially picked us up from Old Town market area - in absence of a street address our taxi driver dropped us off and pointed. Driver didn’t attempt to look up the name or to call the hotel. A shop owner phoned the hotel and someone came with a car to pick us up. It was further than advertised- a good 15 min walk. When we left, staff walked us to the main road and arranged for a taxi to drive us to the bus station in Lisiang for our onward trip to Jianchuang. Also checked bus departure times for us. Our room had a nice view to the mountains. The hotel is 100 m off the road, thus v quiet so we were not disturbed. Breakfast the first morning consisted of rice porridge, a boiled egg and a vegetable savoury. On the second day a large bowl of soup- ground meat, egg noodles and bok choy for each of us in addition to the aforementioned egg, porridge and savoury. This was the first time we used a remote to operate the many functions of toilet and bidet! What fun!

We had planned to rest for a day after descending from the snow mountain, and arriving at Shanzhi was a pleasant surprise. The entire guesthouse area was spacious, with well-maintained and thick lawns in the front and back yards, and even a fireplace at night. The owner kindly upgraded our room, which offered a direct view of the snow mountain from the window – perfect for taking photos. The room was also very clean, and we received a complimentary gift upon check-in: disposable toilet seat covers and disposable face towels, which were very practical. Because of its proximity to the snow mountain, the selection of takeout options was limited, but basic supermarkets, restaurants, and fruit were readily available. The guesthouse itself was well-equipped, offering à la carte dining, a gym, a coffee shop, and a small study – truly a secluded paradise. Since our flight was in the evening, we spent a long time relaxing and enjoying the tranquility of the guesthouse after checking out at noon.

The entire house is beautifully designed, clean, and charming. The hosts were incredibly welcoming and enthusiastic, helping us carry our luggage to the room and even peeling an apple for us while we waited to check in. It felt just like coming home. The rice noodles for breakfast, prepared by the auntie, were absolutely delicious – one bowl simply wasn't enough! Plus, the restaurant offers stunning views of the snowy mountains. Our room was spacious with clean, comfortable bedding, and the huge floor-to-ceiling windows were perfect for watching the sunrise. From the balcony, we even captured the 'Golden Mountain illuminated by the sun,' which I'd been longing to see. We were absolutely delighted with our choice of guesthouse this time!

This B&B was a real pleasure to stay at during this trip. The owner's small courtyard is so cozy! They even live there with their entire family, so I'm so jealous! The room was quite large and comfortable, and the amenities were excellent for the price! The hairdryer was also from Lefen. There's a viewing platform on the third floor with views of the snow-capped mountains, and there's coffee on the second floor—it was so relaxing! The breakfast was very rich, and I didn't order the porridge, but the rice noodles could be a bit more flavorful. 😂 The front desk guy and the owner were very welcoming. We were woken early in the morning by the neighbor's rooster, a truly pristine experience I haven't had in years. It just woke us up to watch the sunrise. From this location, it's only a 15-minute walk to Dongba Valley and the Golden Mountain, and it's quite close to the snow-capped mountains. Overall, I highly recommend it! Great value!
