The place has personality. Our room had high ceiling, a little dining area and kitchen with a microwave fridge, blackout curtains and a king bed, all useful and such delightful old style, nothing sterile about it, although it was clean and modern where it counted. And reasonable rates. Loved going downstairs to the pub/restaurant and having great food in a friendly atmosphere.

The Carlton is in a great location for us. The bed was very comfortable and being able to use the YMCA a few blocks away is a nice amenity. Free parking is also great. The hotel is showing some wear and tear with ripped curtains in our room and furnishings being scratched. For the price it seems the condition of the hotel could be upgraded a bit.

Very nice 1930s vintage hotel. Great dining in the area. Parking is free with a pass given to hotel guests.

Historical hotel but exceptionally clean. Extremely convenient to shopping and the El without hearing the El. The hotel is handicap accessible with necessary lifts but historic design does make some of the accessibility features slightly inconvenient.

Good location - close to shops/restaurants/transportation Phils' for happy hour is awesome!

There were minor things about the room: the tub didn't drain when I was showering, the alarm clock made a hissing noise until I unplugged it. The big problem was that the fire alarm went off intermittently starting at 8am, because (according to the front desk) they were testing the system. At 8am? Without warning guests? Two of us were in the hallway trying to figure out if the building was on fire. I called the desk to learn about the "testing," asked why we weren't told, and was told they don't have an intercom. So they were caught off guard and didn't bother to tell me at check-in the night before? "Oh, by the way, don't bother trying to sleep in." Or, I don't know, test your fire alarms at 1pm, between guests checking out and checking in. Seriously sub-par experience.

A beautiful older hotel in a very quaint but busy area. The hotel was liking stepping back in time. The room was very nice like a old time apartment done into a very nice hotel room. The staff was very friendly and there is a sports bar and restaurant that anchor each side of the hotel.

The Carleton was just what I expected, and so much more! The Staff was welcoming and responded positively to every request. I will definitely stay there again!

Overall, I had a nice stay. The staff was helpful and very professional. I did have a small issue with the plumbing. Apparently, while I was gone during the day, water backed up through the sink and overflowed onto the floor to the point that it reached the carpet just outside the bathroom. As I was checking out the next morning and needed to get to bed right away, I let the staff know, but declined a maintenance call. I feel confident that they will have resolved the issue after I checked out, and this would not affect my staying with them in the future.

I usually request a room on second floor due to being trapped in their elevator 5 yrs ago. But there was a wedding & the wanted to buffer the noises; it worked out OK.

This hotel was a pleasant surprise. It is quaint and very nice. I would stay here again.

The Carleton is like a great little European Inn. Charming, clean, friendly, but not fancy.

This was the perfect place to stay. Restaurants, CTA, grocery stores, parks, shopping, and family all in walking distance. The hotel consists of 3 different buildings: The main Carleton and the Plaza Hotel are joined and there is a separate motor lodge. We had a king in the Plaza. The room was spacious with a small kitchenette (microwave, refrigerator, pod coffee maker, dishes and utensils). The bed was incredibly comfortable. There’s also 2 restaurants - fancy Italian and basic pub - on ground floor that you can charge to the room.

No matter when i come the Staff is the same pleasant and friendly and helpful everything was wonderful it's my favorite place to stay in Thanks
