This review will be somewhat biased since I have been staying at the Royal Phare off and on for 40 years, whenever I come to Paris. My recent stay was for five days in May, travelling as a couple. If you want a simple hotel that offers great value near the Champ de Mars and the Eiffel Tower, the Royal Phare is hard to beat. The rooms are a little on the small side, but are very clean with very good bedding and a very good mattress. Sound proofing is very good. Our room was very quiet in spite of facing Avenue La Motte Picquet, which is a fairly busy street. Occasionally we found our room was a little warm, but rather than run the air conditioning we simply opened the window to enjoy the hustle and bustle of the street below. Be aware that the elevator is very small, with room for only a couple of people, or one person with a large piece of luggage. The reception desk is staffed 24 hours, with all the receptionists speaking English. There are two ATMs very close to the hotel entrance, as well as the entrance to a Metro station, from which you can get to almost anywhere in Paris. Many good restaurants are within easy walking distance. Close by attractions include the Eiffel Tower and Les Invalides. If you are a fan of Rick Steves, Rue Cler is a block away. We never had breakfast there, so I can't comment on that item. When we are in Paris we mainly want a simple hotel that will serve as a base of operations from which we can sally forth to enjoy all the attractions. The Royal Phare works just fine.

My wife and I stayed 3 nights at the Hotel Royal Phare in mid-September, 2010. Size: Small but big enough. Cleanliness: The room and bathroom were clean. Bathroom: Private bathroom. The shower is extremely small. Just barely big enough to squat to the floor if you drop the soap. Great water pressure and plenty of warm water. Not much space or “hook points” to hang a clothesline. Location: This hotel is in a great location. A metro station is located just steps from the front door which made it extremely easy to travel. Walk 5 minutes and you can see the Eiffel Tower. To actually reach it is about a 15-minute walk. We also walked (maybe 45 minutes?) to the Louvre. A grocery store is right next door. Rue Cler is a 2-minute walk away. Miscellaneous: When reserving the room, we requested a room with a view of the Eiffel Tower. They didn’t put us in one. We didn’t mention it when we checked in since it really wasn’t a big deal but it would have been nice for them to go that extra step and honor our booking request without having to ask. Elevator available but is only the size of a small phone booth (1 person). Free wifi. Breakfast available for purchase but we didn’t. Summary: I recommend this hotel for budget-minded travelers who want a clean, conveniently-located place in Paris.

I had a very disappointing experience with Hotel Royal Phare, especially given that this stay was planned for Christmas and involved three small children. We specifically booked based on assurances that the rooms would be interconnecting, which was essential for our family’s safety and comfort. Upon arrival, we were told that the rooms were not interconnecting at all, leaving us in an impossible situation with young children during a major holiday. To make matters worse, the hotel confirmed in writing that a refund would be issued, acknowledging the issue — but later refused to honor that refund without any valid explanation. The communication throughout was unprofessional, dismissive, and evasive. There was no effort to take responsibility or show basic empathy for a family traveling with small children over Christmas. This experience showed a serious lack of integrity and customer care. I would strongly advise families, in particular, to be very cautious before booking here. I deeply regret choosing this hotel and would not stay here again.

This incredible hotel is located just a short walk away from the Eiffel Tower! On the street it’s located on, there is a grocery shop just next door, lots of restaurants alongside & across the road, a souvenir shop with gifts, and a staircase leading underground to the metro station. While visiting Paris as a tourist, I stayed here for a couple days and the rooms are very comfy, the rooms also offer a safe to keep your valuables inside & a mini fridge, and the reception service was absolutely incredible! The receptionist’s were able to speak both French & English which was very helpful for us, & they provided us with a map & lots of advice for navigating the big city! Overall the room was comfortable, service was so so helpful, location was very convenient! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I would NOT recommend this place to anyone. Had asked ahead if the hotel could keep my luggage since I got to Paris earlier than checked in time. The hotel did not have a designated area to hold customer suitcase, my suitcase was kept in a dirty, dingy closet that looks like dirty mop and broom was stored. Upon returning back to the hotel hours after checking time this was probably around 8;30 -9 pm my room was as hot as hell. A/C was off and was told that A/C doesn't take long to come on. It did blow cool however it was very noisy. Could not fall asleep manger on duty was notified and was told it would be fixed in the morning. Same thing happened the next night. Thank God I only spend two nights. Elevator was probably measured 2x4 and can only fit one person at a time. Hallway is dark and very little light. Carpet has a musky odor. This is not a hotel by my standard.

Bed and pillows were very comfortable There was a kettle in the room and coffee machine Housekeeping attended every day Good hairdryer provided One receptionist was lovely, very helpful and friendly. She greeted us on our arrival and recommended places to visit and to eat. Maps are provided Great location , so close to the Eiffel tower and the metro Negatives - the bathroom was very very hot and stuffy once you've had a shower because there was no fan working or air circulating. The lift is extremely small, can just about fit 2 people with small bags. There are a few stairs to climb to reach reception so not good if you have mobility issues. But it was a great location and there are plenty of restaurants and cafes around. Plus we had a view of the courtyard which was nice.

We loved this hotel! It’s a very convenient spot to walking to things in Paris and close to a metro station. We had a great view of the Eiffel Tower, and the room was clean, bed was comfortable and clean, and I loved the Nespresso machine in the room. When we checked out, we were able to leave our luggage as long as we needed until we met our ride for the train that same day. The lift is small, but it’s a very neat hotel, and we’d stay there again.

We chose this hotel mainly because of the location which is walking distance from the Eiffel Tower and the whole area is really nice. There is a pretty large grocery store right next to the hotel which was super convenient and the subway is also right next to the hotel. The room was nice too and we had a street view which was really pretty. The receptionist was also really nice and spoke really good English. The elevator is really small so we ended up taking the stairs every time which was fine because our room was on the second floor however if your room is on a higher floor, it might be a bit of an inconvenience. The room was also kinda small, but it wasn't that much of a problem since we only stayed for a few days. The entire hotel was pretty small but overall quite lovely and the location made up for it.

I was scammed at this hotel. They canceled my reservation, saying my card was declined, which was not true, I found out after talking with my bank. When I arrived and after they told me my credit card was declined, they offered me the same room at the double of the price. When I travel to Paris I always stay in this neighborhood, can say this hotel is way way over priced, inside looks like a dump, is horrible.

I can only recommend this hotel: Very pleasant welcome, we were even able to choose our floor with a view of the dome of the Invalides. Very clean room, bathroom with large shower, very good quality bedding. And what can I say about the location: on one side the Eiffel Tower in 5 minutes, the banks of the Seine, the Trocadero, the Museum of Primitive Arts... and on the other, the Invalides, the National Assembly, Orsay, Louvre, Grand and Petit Palais... Everything is within walking distance, ideal!

It couldn't be more miserable, the entrance to the hotel practically had to be entered from the side, the elevator, in short, without words, all the misery of Paris in its maximum splendor, Victor Hugo was right, it was very well paid.

Response from Property: Thank you for the comment. Why book a room in a hotel where there are hundreds of reviews about the narrow entrance and the small elevator? Read the reviews before booking a place. Also, the area where the hotel is located is one of the most expensive in the world and rates in the hospitality sector vary almost every day depending on demands. 95% of our valued guests have highly appreciated the rooms and their cleanliness, as well as the location and the courtesy of the staff. We are used to frustrated people who are always frustrated for personal reasons and who will never be satisfied even if they book a seven-star hotel. And yes, grow up, what does Victor Hugo have to do with all this? Anyway, good joke!
