Kai Wah Plaza Hotel

This hotel is one of Kunming's original five-star establishments. The decor has a charming aesthetic reminiscent of a booming economic era. They even thoughtfully placed me in a room with my preferred red sofa. It's also conveniently located within walking distance of XunJin Street and Spring City 66 (Hang Lung).

The service was excellent! The front desk, restaurant, housekeeping, and baggage staff were all proactive in greeting us, and were incredibly warm, polite, patient, and thoughtful. The location is great, very close to Kunming Station, and within walking distance. The weekend dinner buffet was rich and varied with fresh ingredients. The facilities are top-notch, and we even got a room upgrade with a fantastic view. It was incredibly quiet at night. Every time I visit Kunming, I love staying at Grand Park Hotel.

This is an older five-star hotel, and the basic amenities are all good. If you don't have extremely high expectations, you shouldn't run into any major issues. The environment is quite nice, seems well-maintained. The service is excellent; any requests were promptly addressed. Breakfast is plentiful, but the variety isn't great – it was pretty much the same for the two days I was there.

I was going to write a review and then realized I didn't take a single photo of the hotel the whole time 😂 I usually like to document my life, so the fact that I didn't take any pictures probably means there wasn't anything particularly captivating about the place. The only photo I have saved is a screenshot of the hotel information from when I ordered takeout, just in case I filled in the wrong room number. Our three families traveled together and booked three rooms. There wasn't much of a view outside the window, and overall, it was pretty standard. The front desk service was neither overly enthusiastic nor bad, just average. The most frustrating part was that we arrived around 6 PM, expecting to check in smoothly and rest. Instead, we were told the rooms weren't ready yet. After a tiring day of traveling, not being able to check in immediately was a really poor experience and definitely put a damper on our mood. Hotels usually have a check-in time of 2 PM at the latest; this was the first time I've ever encountered a delay where we couldn't get into our rooms even by 6 PM.

The hotel's location is great, very close to the train station, making it convenient to get to Dianchi Lake and other attractions. The rooms are tidy and clean, and there's a good variety for breakfast. The customer service staff are friendly and helpful.

An older, more established hotel. Overall, it was decent. On our last night in Yunnan, we saw a stunning sunset from our hotel window. There are two popular (they seemed popular, with long queues) 'influencer' restaurants near the hotel, one of which serves steam-pot chicken.
