Above and beyond expectations. The monk who did the check in was very thorough and spoke perfect English. Others speak enough English for our needs. We opted for western style bed and it was very comfortable. The room floor and private bathroom are both heated - must be heavenly in winter. The shower is an experience in itself. The dinner is set up in a private room complete with poem and calligraphy on the wall. The best vegetarian meal we ever had. At the time of booking, I thought the price was a bit high but it’s worth every pennies.

Everyone should be carful in here , we hade very bad memories and accidents in here, we lose two gold earring when they asked us to leave room for night tour and the room hadn’t key for lockdown! They were not responsible about security! We were thinking here is spiritual place, but just show, i have been more than 108 countries and I haven’t any like this experience

This temple stay is amazing. Vegetarian breakfast and dinner was great. The morning prayer and fire ritual was great to take part in. They also offered an afternoon mediation tutorial. There was a night tour for the cemetery, however I did not take part. It was a little concerning that the English tour was ¥1000 yen more than the Japanese tour. Overall I highly recommend this place.

The location is very close to Okunoin, and the staff are friendly and fluent in English. My stay was quite pleasant. However, upon leaving, I discovered that 70,000 yen was missing from my wallet! The guest rooms had no locks on the outside, and no one reminded me to put my valuables in the safe upon check-in. We immediately filed a complaint the following day, but received no helpful response. If you value the safety of your personal belongings, I strongly advise against staying here!

The temple has a great location, close to Okunoin Temple and a bus stop. The rooms have views, the vegetarian meals are plentiful, and the temple service is excellent. It was a wonderful Zen retreat experience.

A very nice experience, the whole experience was very ceremonial. Not only was the one-night stay with two meals excellent, but the morning prayers the following day truly reflected the Buddhist aspirations of people from different countries. I will definitely go again if I have the chance.

It was a very special experience. The room was not big but clean and tidy. The two vegetarian meals were also very rich. I participated in the afternoon meditation and the night tour of the Oku-no-in Temple in the evening. The introduction along the way was quite interesting. The morning reading and fire festival on the second day were live broadcast on Facebook. At the end, throwing the written blessing signs into the fire was quite ceremonial. The hotel experience is very rich. There are Aji Kan, morning prayers and Goma. Breakfast and dinner are all vegan. The experience is very good. However, the bathroom is shared by several rooms. This is a bit inconvenient because it is very cold outside in winter. Overall, it is highly recommended in Koyasan Shukubo
