Had some basic expectations given that this is a Jinjiang chain hotel (large China chain). It had conditioner, bathrobes, bedroom slippers, tissue paper, which I appreciate. No instant coffee or English tea, but 2 packs of Chinese teabags provided. Clean and fluffy towels, clean room without smoke stench.
But 2 incidents at the hotel made it a rather surprising experience.
I could not, for the life of me, plug my international adaptor into any of the 3 power sockets in the room. I pushed and pushed and it couldn't go in. I called front desk to ask to borrow an international adaptor, and the Front Office (FO) person simply said, "I can get someone to come and push it for you." I said, "Sure, but my adaptor is CNY XXX. The hotel must pay me if he/she spoils my adaptor. The FO person stopped insisting on sending someone, and agreed to send me an adaptor instead, provided I pay a deposit. I said, "Whatever. I cannot stay 2 nights in a room if I cannot charge any of my items."
I still could not push in the hotel's adaptor into the wall. I called FO again, and this time they sent someone. The woman push their adaptor really hard into the wall (hand will shake 😵💫) and it went in. And she claims that one need to use strength as all sockets are built this way otherwise plugs will drop out (such a thing?!? 🤯). And she claims my Samsung plug is "very heavy" and the adaptor cannot support and hence ingeniously stacked the telephone + the notepad to support the adaptor so it doesn't fall out.
Additionally, there is a USB A and USB C port in the wall. I tried to use them too but 3 out of 4 wouldn't work. The woman said it's normal. She says some work, some don't work. And then she also said if I use power socket then the USB ports won't work on the same panel. Mind-boggling.
I had to do a double take when I returned to the room a few hours later, and flip to my earlier photo to jog my memory.
The window cracked! Like, how?!
I went downstairs to show the photo to FO, in case they accuse me of cracking the window when I check out. Guess what they said?? They said in Chinese, "You never encounter before; it's "normal" (for China hotels))"
That totally blew my mind.
She further asked if I wish to change a room, but said there's no more of my room type on my floor. She also asked if I have kids. She says, as long as I don't touch it, it won't shatter into the room. It is "just cracked", and that when guests check out, they will put the room to out-of-order and replace the glass. Wow, so stoic...
When I came back at night, I swear the cracked glass became convex (see pictures). I quickly closed both sheer and night out curtains in the glass shatter into my face at night! In the morning, I can even hear birds chirping (which means I'm pretty sure the glass is not "just cracked"!)
If you believe it's a one-off, then I hope so too.
