During my visit to the museum in Nanning, I spent time in this exhibition hall about Zhuang culture. The display explained how Zhuang traditions developed through contact with other peoples while keeping their own identity. I enjoyed seeing everyday objects that brought this story to life: woven baskets, pottery, cooking vessels, and tools used for work. The exhibition also introduced Zhuang rice culture, embroidery, folk songs, and the strong connection between people and nature. It was a thoughtful look at daily life and traditions passed down through generations. #underratedspots When people visit Nanning, many head straight to Qingxiu Mountain. But one place that genuinely surprised me was the Guangxi Ethnic Museum (广西民族博物馆). First of all, it’s free. Secondly, it gives you a much deeper understanding of Guangxi beyond just beautiful scenery and delicious food. Guangxi is home to many ethnic groups, including the Zhuang, Yao, Miao, Dong and Jing communities, and this museum does a fantastic job showcasing their traditions, costumes, architecture and festivals. What I enjoyed most was that the exhibits did not feel dry or overly academic. The colourful traditional costumes, intricate silver ornaments and recreated village scenes made it easy to imagine how these communities lived. The museum building itself is also quite impressive. The architecture incorporates ethnic design elements, making it very photogenic even before you step inside. Why do I think this place is underrated? · Completely free admission. · Beautiful architecture and photo opportunities. · Air-conditioned and perfect for escaping Nanning’s heat. · Helps you understand Guangxi’s rich cultural diversity. · Surprisingly modern and well-curated exhibits.
