Sofitel Xining

Former glory remains, but its true quality is long gone. It was my first time visiting Qinghai, and while I hesitated for a long time about the trip itself, choosing this hotel was a no-brainer. The foundation of a long-standing luxury hotel is still there, but the housekeeping and service are a world apart from what they used to be. The service went from a great first impression to sheer speechlessness by the end. Before setting off, I received a call in advance to confirm my itinerary. Yet upon check-in, they couldn't find my reservation—though it was finally tracked down, likely under the guidance of the front desk manager. On the second day, I was bombarded with frantic phone calls claiming they couldn't find my extension of stay... Do they not do shift handovers? Are front desk staff put on duty without any training? Even the hand cream is locked away... For the cleanliness, just look at the pictures. P.S.: The breakfast is damn awful; I forced myself to choke it down for just one day out of the three. The location is very convenient, close to everywhere.

We stayed at this hotel for both the first and last nights of our Qinghai-Gansu loop tour. The location is excellent, with plenty of shopping malls and a RT-Mart nearby, making it very convenient to get around. The rooms are very clean and the bedding is comfortable, but the TV sizes varied inconsistently across different rooms.

The room has a nice decor. Since it was the off-season, I was upgraded to a higher floor and a better room type—very accommodating and a great overall experience! Coming from Beijing, I was also provided with oxygen canisters and a humidifier. Butler Xiao Qi reached out via WeChat in advance to coordinate my stay and even included breakfast.

Excellent location with great dining and entertainment options nearby, and very convenient transportation. The lobby staff were warm and welcoming, the breakfast offered a rich variety of choices, and the dining environment was pleasant. Definitely worth staying here again!

Although the hotel has been around for quite a while, it is well-maintained, clean, and hygienic. The service lacked a bit of proactiveness, but the staff were warm and helpful whenever approached.

The room was quite clean, and my stay was alright. Xining itself feels a bit underpopulated; it seems tourists mostly use it as a transit point and get stuck at the zoo. A bit of a shame.

The location is convenient, and the hotel has a classic, 'old money' design. The staff were very friendly, and the room was clean and tidy with comfortable bedding. It was the most satisfying night of our Qinghai trip.

From the moment we checked in, it felt like the hotel management was in disarray. The person checking in before us didn't even have a reservation; they seemed to be acquaintances with the staff, as someone called 'Sister Zhang' to confirm, and then their room was upgraded. We waited in line for a long time behind them, and of course, no upgrade for us. They upgraded that person's superior room, while our deluxe room got nothing! The floor we were given was also very light-polluted and noisy, which was truly disappointing. When we got to the room and prepared to bathe the child, there was no shower cap. And even though we provided the child's ID during check-in, they didn't proactively offer kids' slippers or toiletries. Having stayed in hotels so many times, this is quite rare. The most ridiculous thing was that the shower curtain in the room was completely useless; it might as well not have been installed. What's the point? Isn't that embarrassing? The points I'm giving are for the breakfast staff; despite being very busy, they were still very enthusiastic. Thumbs up to them! I'll stop looking at those fake reviews; they're simply misleading.
