We had a lovely stay at El Autor Hotel Madrid! The staff is extremely nice and helpful. We had a 2-bedroom/2-bath family suite, and it was plenty of room and very comfortable for our family of four. Housekeeping did a very good job each day, and the service/food at the restaurant was good as well. The beds were very comfortable and the pillows were terrific--not too "quishy." The location of the hotel is great--we appreciated the quiet street while also being within easy walking distance of many of Madrid's many attractions, restaurants, and shopping. Valet parking is available for a fee. We did have a problem with the hot/cold water in both showers. We noticed on Saturday that the shower wouldn't stay at a constant temperature--we would set it at a certain temperature, but it would alternate between colder and hotter from whatever temperature it had set. We alerted the front desk of the issue, and we were told on Monday that it had been fixed. We didn't have an issue with it after that. The family suite is on the 6th floor...and the common area/hallways on the 6th floor were quite warm--there was no air movement or airconditioning in the 6th floor hallway (but the rest of the common areas were comfortable, temperature-wise.) Also, the middle "original" elevator is the only elevator that goes to the 6th floor, and it didn't always want to work properly...and getting four grown adults in that elevator was tight! We often used the more modern elevator that goes to the 5th floor and then the stairs. Room for improvement: the a/c in the first bedroom could be tempermental--but we were still comfortable. We were able to adjust the temperature, but not the fan. Also, the lighting in the bathrooms needs to be brighter (and, yes, we knew we could do two settings: the full "on" and the "relax." ) The lights on the mirrors are very dim--they need brighter bulbs. During the day it wasn't as much of any issue with the daylight through the windows (the suite got good natural light during the day,) but at night it was very hard to see...especially in the front shower as there is no light fixture in the shower ceiling. Also, there needs to be more hooks or towel bars in the bathrooms to hang wet towels, clothing, etc. Otherwise, we appreciated all of the room amenities: in-room safe, mini-refrigerator, drinking water each night, hair dryer, robe, slippers, iron, etc. We recommend El Autor Hotel Madrid and would stay there again.
