In the chill of early spring, Shijiazhuang Zoo has quietly welcomed the signs of spring. Recently, the fragrant honeysuckle in the Polar Ocean World area of the zoo has bloomed first, with clusters of delicate flowers adorning the branches. The translucent white petals are dotted with rosy red, resembling a maiden’s blush, gentle and elegant. Getting close to smell, the fragrance is rich and mellow, fresh without being sweet, spreading in the cool air and refreshing the spirit. Fragrant honeysuckle is a semi-evergreen shrub of the Caprifoliaceae family, highly adaptable to the environment, cold and drought resistant, able to safely overwinter even in northern temperatures as low as minus 20 degrees Celsius. Its blooming period lasts from mid-February to early March. Its flowering marks the beginning of the zoo’s spring flower viewing season, adding vitality and warmth around the Polar Ocean World. As temperatures rise, flowers such as peach blossoms and magnolias will also bloom one after another, presenting a splendid scene of spring flowers competing in beauty. Come to Shijiazhuang Zoo to experience the first breath of early spring and encounter a romantic floral event!

While people bundle up in winter clothes and stay indoors, a group of "cold-resistant warriors" at Shijiazhuang Zoo remain vibrant and lively. The Siberian tigers are regulars outdoors in winter; the colder the wind, the more spirited they become. Their thick fur and subcutaneous fat allow them to stroll outdoors with ease, displaying their majestic presence. The Arctic wolves have even better cold tolerance, with long, dense fur that keeps them calm in winter. Draped in snowy white "coats," they move swiftly through the valleys, agile and mysterious. Herbivores in the grazing area have donned thick winter coats, leisurely wandering in the snow with curious, lively eyes. The giant pandas also handle the cold with ease, their round bodies wrapped in dense fur, able to chew bamboo and stroll outdoors, even rolling and playing in the snow. During Minor Cold, all creatures hide but life continues to thrive. Come to Shijiazhuang Zoo to experience the wonderful wisdom and vibrant vitality of these "cold-resistant warriors" adapting to nature!

On December 15, 2025, the Asian elephant "Aodong" celebrated its fourth birthday. The keepers carefully prepared a "Happy Birthday" sign made of carrots, with a colorful platter decorated with apples, bananas, and other fruits and vegetables. As the gate opened, the Aodong family excitedly rushed in to share the birthday feast. Aodong skillfully picked out apples with its trunk and hooked bananas, gently flapping its big ears, looking very adorable. Elephants are social animals that value family; female elephants form a "matriarchal society" and raise the young together. Asian elephants have a long gestation period of 18 to 22 months, making each calf especially precious. Aodong has grown healthily under the joint care of its mother "Aobao" and "Auntie" Mai, learning survival skills. Aodong's birthday is not only a joyful moment for the zoo but also a great opportunity to learn about and protect Asian elephants. Asian elephants are listed as endangered species, and every bit of attention and protection is significant. Due to winter weather, the exhibit has been moved indoors. Please keep quiet during your visit, avoid loud noises and tapping on the glass, to help protect these lovely creatures. Come and send birthday wishes to Aodong and join us in safeguarding the future of Asian elephants!

At the zoo's ibis garden, you can encounter the unique Crowned Crane. Its most distinctive feature is the golden feather crown on its head that radiates like sunlight. The crown feathers resemble upright wheat ears with a metallic sheen that sparkles in the morning or evening light, swaying brilliantly in the wind. This golden crown is a specially evolved stiff feather, standing straight and tall, serving as a key tool for courtship and displaying status. During the breeding season, the Crowned Crane performs a unique courtship dance, nodding, jumping, and circling, with the golden crown shaking and shimmering with each movement, making the dance even more splendid. It is also the national bird of Uganda, symbolizing nobility and peace. Visit the zoo to watch the Crowned Crane's glamorous dance up close, as if under a spotlight, and experience the wonder and charm of nature.

It's snowing! The long-awaited first snow has finally arrived at Shijiazhuang Zoo, covering the entire park in a thick layer of snow, like it's wrapped in "cream frosting." The giant pandas here have become the "main attraction," happily frolicking in the snow. Their black and white fur is dusted with snowflakes, looking like moving "snow-topped dumplings." They happily munch on bamboo shoots, with bits of shoot husks mixed with snow sticking to their faces, their serious eating expressions irresistibly cute; they also lie back on their perches playing with blue treat-dispensing balls, paws in the air, having a great time. Besides the giant pandas, other little animals are very lively too: macaques jump on snow-covered rocks, Amur tigers lazily lounge on perches enjoying the snow, and the Swan Lake is misty and beautiful like a flowing painting. Here, visitors can enjoy plenty of surprises and joy, experiencing the romantic blend of animals and snowy scenery. This weekend, come to Shijiazhuang Zoo for a romantic first snow date and check in to this limited-time beautiful scene!

As autumn arrives, the foxtail grass at Shijiazhuang Zoo enters its best viewing period, lasting until mid-November. The mature foxtail grass plants stand 80 to 150 cm tall, with leaves that transition from bright green to light green and yellow-green, some edges tinged with reddish-brown, complementing the flower spikes at the top. Its distinctive conical flower spikes resemble a wolf's tail, measuring 10 to 30 cm long, gradually changing from pale green to pinkish purple and yellow-brown. The fluffy flower spikes are full and soft, swaying in the wind, glowing softly and translucently under sunlight, making for perfect autumn photos with just a snap. Foxtail grass is highly adaptable, drought-tolerant, and thrives in poor soil with low requirements. It prefers sunlight but can also tolerate partial shade, has strong tillering ability, and grows quickly. It forms a naturally lush landscape with minimal maintenance, helps stabilize soil and slopes, provides food for birds and insects, and supports the park's ecological balance. Throughout the zoo, foxtail grass is everywhere, creating multi-layered scenic views. Take advantage of the crisp autumn weather to bring your family and friends to the zoo, interact with the animals, and encounter this romantic sea of flowers to experience the natural beauty of autumn.

In late spring, the wisteria at Shijiazhuang Zoo reaches its peak viewing period. Along the Goldfish Corridor, Jiujing Road, and Heyun Wetland's scenic trellises, over a thousand wisteria plants bloom in competition, with clusters of flowers cascading like purple waterfalls. Flower clusters up to 80 centimeters long sway gently in the breeze, shimmering with a soft purple glow under the sunlight. As a deciduous vine native to the warm temperate zone, wisteria is rare in Shijiazhuang. Its gnarled old trunks and delicate flower clusters combine strength and grace. When the breeze passes, the faint floral fragrance mingles with the buzzing bees, weaving a springtime atmosphere. The multi-flowered wisteria corridor on the south side of the Giant Panda Pavilion is a visual feast, featuring 12 varieties and over 30 wisteria plants in shades of pink, white, light purple, and deep purple, creating a fairy-tale-like color layering. The 140-meter-long wisteria corridor along Jiujing Road forms a natural green shade tunnel with lush branches and leaves, where strolling through offers a poetic play of light and shadow. The shrub-like wisteria flower walls on the east side of Monkey Mountain and the northern slope of Heyun Wetland cascade like purple waterfalls, contrasting beautifully with the green leaves to create a dreamlike immersive landscape. The millennium-old poet Li Bai once described this scene with the words, "Wisteria hangs on cloud trees, flower clusters suit the spring sun." Now is the perfect time to experience it. Come to Shijiazhuang Zoo to see the wisteria waterfalls and hear the birdsong like music, capturing spring in the romance and tranquility of late spring.

Recently, the peonies at Shijiazhuang Zoo have reached their full bloom, becoming a major highlight of the spring season. Hundreds of peony plants compete to blossom, with reds as fiery as flames, whites as pure as snow, and pinks like rosy clouds. The layers of petals, set against the green leaves, appear even more elegant and majestic. A gentle breeze carries a faint floral fragrance that is refreshing and intoxicating. Peonies are a unique woody flower native to China, with a long-standing connection to Chinese civilization. Their woody stems can live for a hundred years, and the flowers can reach up to 30 centimeters in diameter, earning them the title of the "giant" among flowers. The garden features classic varieties that have been passed down for thousands of years, such as "Wei Zi" and "Yao Huang," as well as modern cultivars like the multicolored "Dao Jin." When the morning dew has not yet dried, the dew-covered petals look vividly fresh; after the rain clears, the entire garden's fragrance becomes even more enchanting. Strolling through the peony garden, the colorful flowers weave into a splendid sea of blossoms, with lush green branches embracing the large flowers, fully displaying the demeanor of the "king of flowers." Many visitors pause among the blooms to take photos and capture this exclusive romance in their lenses. The peony garden is located opposite the porcupine exhibit area.
