based on 16 reviewsNantou Ancient Town, also known as the Xin'an Ancient Town, is locally known as "Jiujie Village." In 331 (the 6th year of the Xianhe reign of the Eastern Jin Dynasty), Dongguan Commandery was established here. Since then, through various changes in administrative seats, it has long served as an administrative center and a key coastal defense location in the Lingnan region, and is often regarded as one of the common origins of the history and culture of Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
Today, the ancient town area still retains the Nantou Ancient City – South Gate and the East Gate, nestled between residential buildings on both sides. As you stroll through, you will find historical sites such as the Wen Tianxiang Shrine and the Xin'an Opium Den. Outside the South Gate, there is also the Nantou Ancient Town Museum, which displays many artifacts, quietly recounting the ancient town's past glory.
