"The location is incredibly convenient; it's just a 2-minute walk from the subway station to the hotel. What really stands out is the value for money – paying a little over 200 a night during the off-season is unbeatable. I honestly thought a hotel at this price point would have tiny rooms, but there's even a hallway, which is perfect for luggage. Super duper budget friendly."

"Good hotel in great location for a good price. Hotel rooms in Japon for this price are small. Our room had no view as the window was blurt. And the window can’t open. But I think this is common in Japon. But considering the location and the price it was a good value"

"I think 2Z is a new hotel since I still smell new wall painting. Location very closed to Shin-Imamiya Osaka so it very convenient to/from Kansai Airport. Local subway also 300meter from location. Easy check in, when I was check-in there is one person help me (since I was arrived around 2pm) but basically this is self-checkin services. They didn’t used key-room. This hotel is shared bathroom but very clean. Small and big towel include at room but you need to pay if you want to change another towel. Cleaning services not available but thats fine! They sell amenities at check-in desk if you needed. Spacious lounge with microwave, tap water and vending machine. Highly recommended for peoples who seeking room with budget cost. Overall, I was happy stay here."

"The location is great, not far from the subway station and right next to a gas station. The service was pretty good. Even though my room was close to the elevator, I didn't hear any noise at all. One of the pillows had a strong smell, so I'd recommend changing the pillowcase. There's a convenience store and a Matsuya (Japanese fast-food chain) nearby. Getting to Universal Studios should be quick, though I personally got lost in Umeda for half an hour, and everyone I asked gave me different directions..."

"The location of the hotel is pretty convenient. 5–6 minutes walk to Hommachi St., which you can easily use to travel to Kyoto, Kobe, etc.  The check-in and check-out were really fast, and we had an upgrade, which was worth the price. I had read the previous reviews about the rudeness of the staff, which is not actually due to this, but it’s the language barrier that could make a tired traveller a little less patient.  If you wish to ask something more specific, please don’t be afraid to use the Google Translate app to help you with the communication. The staff have been really helpful to all of our enquiries. Some remarks were about the hotel lobby being on the 15th floor, but they have a dedicated entrance for taxis or cars to reach the hotel.  Bonus: if you exit through KoKuMiN Osaka Metro Yodoyabashi Station (Exit 4) on your right is a local grocery store that sells local produce and other fruits/food products. It's cheaper to go here to buy your drinks and fruits, etc."

"This is a reliable, budget-friendly hotel, perfect as a central base for day trips to Osaka and Kobe. It's practical and close to the action, but don't expect a super modern stay. 👍 Great Stuff: Location: Seriously close to Hanshin Amagasaki Train Station (easy access to Osaka/Kobe). Value: Excellent price for the connectivity and comfort. Staff: Friendly and efficient front desk. Comfort: Quiet rooms, comfortable bed, good sleep quality. Bathrooms: Loved the separate toilets and deep bathtubs in some rooms."

"Absolutely loved this hotel! All the staff were so enthusiastic and genuinely warm. The room was the largest we had during our entire trip to Japan. While the furnishings felt a bit dated, they were exceptionally well-maintained, and there wasn't that old room smell; it was very clean. The breakfast was generally good. The hotel offers a free shuttle to Sapporo Station, the airport limousine bus stop is right outside, and there's a Lawson convenience store just across the street. This will definitely be our top choice for our next visit to Sapporo."

"Located in a quiet part of downtown Osaka, this hotel is very close to Shinsaibashi and Osaka Castle. There's a drugstore right next door and the subway station is just 150 meters away. The room is small, so you won't be able to spread out your luggage. The breakfast is a simple set menu, but it's great that it's available until 11 AM, so you don't have to rush to eat early."

Osaka Travel Guide

Osaka

Osaka, Japan's third-largest city, is a vibrant blend of modern energy and traditional charm. Known as the culinary capital of Japan, Osaka is famous for its street food culture, with dishes like takoyaki (octopus balls) and okonomiyaki (savory pancakes) filling the air with irresistible aromas. The city is also home to historical landmarks like Osaka Castle, a stunning symbol of Japan’s feudal past, and lively districts such as Dotonbori, where neon lights and bustling streets create an unforgettable atmosphere. Whether you're enjoying a day of shopping in Umeda or exploring the tranquil Shitenno-ji Temple, Osaka offers a dynamic mix of old and new.

Beyond the city itself, Osaka is a gateway to other must-visit destinations, including the ancient city of Kyoto and the popular Universal Studios Japan theme park. With its thriving entertainment scene, a rich cultural heritage, and some of the best food in the world, Osaka is a city that caters to both adventure seekers and those looking to relax. Known for its friendly locals and laid-back vibe, Osaka offers a warm welcome to visitors from all over the globe. Whether you’re in the mood for delicious food, fascinating history, or exciting attractions, Osaka is a city that promises to delight at every turn.

Getting to and Around Osaka

Getting to and Around Osaka

When flying into Osaka, you'll most likely land at Kansai International Airport (KIX), located about 50 km from the city center. From there, you have several convenient ways to reach downtown Osaka.

The JR Haruka Express is one of the fastest options, taking about 35 minutes to reach Osaka Station for around $12. If you're heading to areas like Namba or Umeda, there are other convenient train routes available as well.

If you prefer a more relaxed ride or are carrying heavy luggage, Airport Limousine Buses are a great option. These buses are comfortable, run frequently, and cost about $10, taking approximately 45-60 minutes to reach major locations in the city.

For a more direct route, taxis are available, but they can be more expensive, typically costing between $100-$140 depending on traffic and the destination.

Best Areas to Stay in Osaka

Dotonbori/Shinsaibashi: If you're a first-time visitor to Osaka, Dotonbori and Shinsaibashi are unmissable. This bustling district is the heart of Osaka’s nightlife and entertainment scene. You’ll find iconic landmarks like the famous Glico Running Man sign, neon-lit streets, and a wide variety of restaurants offering local specialties such as takoyaki (octopus balls) and okonomiyaki (savory pancakes). The area is also perfect for shopping, with Shinsaibashi’s long arcade lined with trendy stores and boutiques. While this area can be busy and touristy, it offers the perfect mix of Osaka’s modern energy and traditional street culture, making it ideal for those looking to experience the city’s lively spirit up close. It's slightly on the pricier side, but you can’t beat the convenience of being so close to all the major attractions.

Home to impressive skyscrapers, upscale shopping malls like Grand Front Osaka, and rooftop gardens with stunning views, Umeda is a great base for those looking to experience Osaka in style. It’s a bit more laid-back compared to the electric energy of Dotonbori but still offers easy access to major attractions like Osaka Castle and Universal Studios Japan (a short train ride away). The area is generally a bit more upscale and less chaotic, but you’ll still find plenty of restaurants, bars, and cultural spots to explore. Umeda is an excellent choice for visitors seeking a balance between modernity and convenience.

Namba: If you want to be in the heart of Osaka’s entertainment district, Namba is the place to be. Just a short walk from Dotonbori, this area is perfect for those who want to be close to everything, from neon lights and street food stalls to chic restaurants and vibrant nightlife. Namba is also home to traditional attractions like the historic Shitenno-ji Temple, as well as the famous Namba Parks shopping complex, which offers both retail therapy and green spaces. This area is perfect for visitors who want a combination of modern amenities and cultural exploration, with everything within easy walking distance. Though it can be a little crowded, staying in Namba means you’re right at the center of Osaka’s action.

Amazing
MMengmengmamaChoosing InterContinental Osaka was hands down the smartest decision I made! The location is absolutely phenomenal! A shopper's paradise! Major malls and flagship stores are right downstairs, making it incredibly convenient to get all your favorite items in one go! The rooms are incredibly spacious! In Japan, where space is a premium, the InterContinental's rooms feel like a true luxury. We booked a king room and even added an extra bed, and it still didn't feel cramped at all! The bathroom was also large and bright, and being able to lie down and gaze at Osaka's vibrant cityscape made it absolutely worth it! The service was exceptionally thoughtful! From check-in to check-out, every single staff member was polite, attentive, and incredibly detail-oriented. The front desk, housekeeping, concierge... even the parking and luggage storage services were absolutely faultless! When checking out, they even proactively offered to weigh my luggage. The most delightful surprise was when a staff member wished me ”Gong Xi Fa Cai” in Chinese – it felt so incredibly welcoming! It truly proved to be a brilliant choice to stay at InterContinental Osaka! Next time I'm in Osaka, I'm definitely booking this place again!

MM41230****I booked this hotel quite last minute before my trip, and I was pleasantly surprised by how great it was. After reading some reviews, I opted for a twin room for more space, and even though it's near a main road, it was very quiet at night. The room was clean and tidy, and housekeeping came daily. The hotel offers a variety of self-service toiletries you can pick up, and a special touch I appreciated was the complimentary overnight face masks. Downstairs, there's a large AEON food supermarket, and the Shiyobashi Subway Station Exit 2 is just a short walk away. Getting to Shinsaibashi only takes a few minutes. It's incredibly convenient for getting anywhere – truly a hotel that has it all!

KkindaleiThe location is superb! It's right opposite Grand Front Plaza, which has many unique shops. The iconic Hankyu department store is also nearby. Umeda Station and Osaka Station are both within a 10-minute walk, and there are plenty of dining options around. The breakfast at the cafe next to the lobby was also great and very good value for money. The hotel's front desk staff were all very pleasant, except for one Chinese staff member. I asked her to help me call and book a restaurant, but she insisted on speaking English to me, even though her English wasn't very good. First, she said I couldn't use the front desk phone for external calls and had to use my own mobile. When I agreed, she then went on and on, basically saying I absolutely needed a Japanese phone number for her to make the reservation. Her attitude was quite aggressive, even worse than the Japanese staff. I just turned around and booked it myself online… Thumbs down.

GGuest UserWe had a quad room with 4 large beds. The room is great generous size for a family of 4 with a shared dining table in the middle. It was very clean and modern. We would surely stay here again. Convenient location within walking distance of attractions in the area. Subway directly under. No need to pay for breakfast with 7-11 on the ground floor as well as so many eateries nearby.

MMeitounaohahahahaThis is one of the few hotels in Japan with a 12 PM checkout, which is great. There's a Christmas tree downstairs that adds a lovely atmosphere. We went to the theme park on our second day, and this hotel is the closest one to it – the entrance is right downstairs! Food options are also very convenient. I highly recommend the fried beef cutlet, it was absolutely delicious! Our clothes got soaked on the Jurassic ride, which was totally unexpected, but thankfully we could just pop back to the hotel to change. You just need to get a stamp from the staff at the entrance to re-enter the park. I hope to bring my kids here next time and will definitely stay here again!

DDingmaomisThe room design was modern and minimalist, making excellent use of the space, and it was spotless. My only minor complaint was that the air conditioning unit was a bit noisy, which unfortunately led to a restless first night. I particularly enjoyed the outdoor lounge on the ground floor. The Western-style set breakfast was also quite delicious. Overall, I was very satisfied with this hotel.

AAnonymous UserOverall, it's quite clean and tidy. The biggest drawback is not being able to store luggage, making it more suitable for those who understand Japanese. Facilities: Most areas of the onsen were under renovation when I visited. Hygiene: Daily cleaning, but bed linens are changed every three days. Breakfast quality is good.

GGuest UserCompared to places back home, it's definitely on the smaller side, but for Japan, the size is actually quite acceptable. It wasn't as cramped or dated as I'd imagined. With the lights on, it felt quite cozy, and the window provided good natural light. My only minor gripes were the lack of complimentary water and that housekeeping only came every three days. On the plus side, there's a 7-Eleven nearby, which is super convenient, and it's also very close to Tenkachaya Station. The neighborhood is residential and felt very safe, completely unlike what some online comments suggest about the 'western district' being full of homeless people; even at 9 or 10 PM, there were no drunks or homeless individuals around. Luggage storage is under camera surveillance with no staff supervision, which initially made me a little worried, but my bags were perfectly safe after half a day. All in all, it's very affordable and offers excellent value for money. 🫶

CCeres NgThis hotel is truly splendid! From the moment we arrived, a staff member guided us to the reception. Many staff speak English and are very helpful, which makes check-in smooth and comfortable for tourists. The 2nd floor has a great common area with a pool table, gym, smoking room, and plenty of tables, chairs, and sofas where you can relax or hang out. There’s also a wide range of useful items available for guests to borrow — hair curlers, nail clippers, charging cables and more. The location is unbeatable too. A convenience store is right outside the hotel, and it’s just a short walk to both Shinsaibashi and Dotonbori — perfect for shopping and food. One thing I really appreciated: the room fridge doesn’t have a freezer, and I bought ice cream. The staff kindly stored it in their freezer and gave me a tag to collect it anytime. So thoughtful! Other helpful facilities: • Luggage weighing scale on the 1st floor • Microwave, forks, spoons, and wet tissues available downstairs • Daily mineral water and towel replenishment We booked a family room and loved the convenience of having a washing machine inside — we washed and dried clothes every day! The shower and toilet are also separated, which is wonderful for families. The amenities are top-notch too — hairdryer, curler, and shower head are all from Refa. Very premium and nice to use! Overall, we had such a comfortable and happy stay. We absolutely loved it here and would definitely come back again! ❤️

GGuest UserDecent location, close to dotonbori but not stuck in the middle of it. Staff were friendly. Room was decent size, enough to store and open suitcases if needed. Room was clean except toilet seat had something sticky on it needed wiping off with soap. Bed was comfy. Door Locks were a bit awkward/noisy (tap with your hand, then with the card to unlock). Things like toothbrushes and Razer's etc were available in the lobby Konbinis close by, main Namba train station about 15 mins walk, otherwise closer station was about 5 minutes walk.
