Li River Three-star cruise ship

Visiting Guilin in July, here’s the honest truth — these days there’s a high-temperature blue alert, with feels-like temperatures soaring to 40℃, but the misty Li River and the flood season of the Yulong River are wild only in summer. This guide is based on my own experience with pitfalls. The order is casual, so jump around and pick what you need. 🌧️ Pitfall avoidance guide For high-speed rail, choose Guilin station first; it’s closest to downtown. Guilin West station is ridiculously far. Ignore anyone offering “cheap one-day tours” or “authentic beer fish” right outside the station — they’re all shopping scams. For Elephant Trunk Hill, navigate directly to Gate 3 for the best panoramic shots. The park is free but you must book in advance on the “One-Click Tour Guangxi” app. The Sun and Moon Twin Towers are best viewed from a distance. The 35 yuan tower climb is just a waste of money. The lit-up reflections outside are more photogenic. Only buy official tickets for Yulong River bamboo rafts. The “insider discounts” from scalpers are scams. The Jinlong Bridge to Old County section costs 255 yuan per raft for two people. Book on the app at 8 PM the night before. There are many bar scams on West Street in Yangshuo. Check the menu prices before ordering. 👗 What to wear In July, Guilin’s daytime temperature is 33–38℃ with high humidity, feeling like a steam room. Wear a quick-dry short-sleeve shirt layered with a sun-protective shirt. The Li River’s surface reflects strongly, so don’t skimp on SPF 50+ sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat, and sunglasses. Wear breathable long pants or quick-dry shorts. Shoes should be non-slip sneakers because the bluestone slabs get slippery after rain. Caves (Ludi Cave, Silver Cave) stay around 18℃ year-round, so pack a light jacket. Bring a folding umbrella, mosquito repellent, and a waterproof phone pouch — they can be lifesavers on the bamboo rafts. The Longji rice terraces are 2–3 degrees cooler than the city, so add a long-sleeve layer for mornings and evenings. 🎯 Must-visit attractions Elephant Trunk Hill is free. It’s the emblem of Guilin, the “elephant drinking water” from textbooks. The two rivers and four lakes night cruise costs 210 yuan. The 7:30 PM cruise is the best time to see the lit Sun and Moon Twin Towers. If that’s too expensive, a lakeside walk is also lovely. Duxiu Peak and the old Wangcheng city cost 100 yuan. It’s the site of the Ming dynasty Jingjiang Prince’s Mansion. The phrase “Guilin’s scenery is the best under heaven” is carved at the peak. Ludi Cave costs 82 yuan. It was a filming location for the 1987 Journey to the West TV series and features a stalactite light show. Li River four-star cruises start at 360 yuan. The Yangdi to Yangshuo section is the real-life background of the famous 20 yuan bill image. Yangshuo’s Yulong River bamboo rafts from Jinlong Bridge to Old County cost 255 yuan per raft. They pass nine dams and are wilder than the Li River. Silver Cave costs 80 yuan. It’s one of the “three wonders” of caves and perfect for escaping the heat at noon. 🍜 Local food For Guilin rice noodles, stick to old shops in small alleys downtown. A small bowl with two toppings costs 5–6 yuan. The local way is to eat the dry noodles first, then drink the soup. Avoid the 15 yuan bowls sold in tourist areas. Yangshuo beer fish uses Li River swordfish, costing 68–120 yuan per pot. Old shops are reliable; ask about the fish species and price before ordering. Lipu taro pork costs 30–78 yuan. The taro is sticky and the pork belly is not greasy. It’s the highlight dish at banquets. Gongcheng oil tea costs 8–40 yuan per bowl, served with fried rice and peanuts. It’s a Yao ethnic heritage dish — bitter at first, but addictive after the second sip. Snail stuffed with pork costs 25–35 yuan. The snail meat mixed with pork filling is delicious. Don’t buy souvenirs in tourist spots; go to city supermarkets for authentic products that can be shipped. 🚗 Transportation guide Guilin has no subway. City buses start at 2 yuan. Taxis between attractions usually cost under 20 yuan. Don’t buy tickets to “Yangshuo station” — that station is in Xingping, and you still need a 40-minute bus ride to the county town. Renting an electric bike in Yangshuo costs 15–30 yuan per day. The Ten-Mile Gallery is the best cycling route. Remember to record a video when picking up the bike to check its condition. Returning it is hassle-free. For Longji rice terraces, it’s best to stay in Jinkeng Village. The cable car round trip costs 100 yuan. Watching the sunrise and sea of clouds is worth the price. In the city, choose accommodation near Dongxi Alley. In Yangshuo, if you prefer quiet, stay at a guesthouse by the Yulong River. West Street’s main street is noisy until early morning. Book tickets and hotels on Trip.com before your trip to compare prices. During peak season (especially weekends), book 3–5 days in advance. Booking on-site usually costs double.

Guilin’s scenery is the best in the world🏞️ Xingping on the Li River is definitely a must-see stunning spot! Every photo looks like a postcard~📸 📍Recommended experience: Take the bamboo raft! Feel the scene of "a boat gliding over green waves, people traveling inside a painting"🚣‍♀️ Along the way, you can enjoy the most iconic Li River landscape and even spot Yuanbao Mountain featured on the back of the 20 yuan bill💰 📸Photo tips: It’s best to visit early morning or late afternoon when the light is perfect for photos The Li River reflections are incredibly beautiful, so be sure to take plenty of photos for your check-in! I rate the inclusion of the Li River Three-star cruise ship in the Top 50 Global Traveller-Picked Attractions in Guilin a well-deserved 5 out of 5. The core experience is simply outstanding: incomparable natural scenery and authentic cultural charm. This cruise lives up to its reputation as one of the best things to do in Guilin and truly feels like the city’s symbolic landmark. Would I recommend it to friends? Absolutely—a solid 5 out of 5 again! What made my visit unforgettable were the vistas: the scenery is nothing short of amazing. It’s no exaggeration when they call this the most beautiful place on earth in China—it really is breathtaking. Every photo I took onboard captured stunning landscapes that are worth treasuring. A bit of practical advice for future visitors: be sure to check the weather before booking—clear blue skies and sunshine make the views even more spectacular, especially if you enjoy photography 📸. If seafood’s not your thing, bring your own snacks for the cruise. Travelers with luggage will be happy to know you’re allowed to bring your suitcase onboard, with ramps at the docks making it easy to manage. I suggest visiting during the morning for the best experience. All of my favorite travel photos were taken right on the cruise, with the entire journey from Lingchuan along the Li River offering endless picturesque moments. If you’re planning a Guilin trip, this cruise is not to be missed! #tripbest #tripbest _reviewer

#hellohalloween Gliding down the Li River on a bamboo raft feels like drifting into a traditional Chinese ink painting — those misty karst mountains, the mirror-still water, fishermen quietly tending their nets… it all feels too beautiful to be real. With every gentle push of the raft, new peaks unfold like pages in a storybook. The breeze carries the scent of the river, and the only sound is water tapping against the bamboo. I stretched out, let my hands skim the surface, and just exhaled — finally understanding why poets have worshipped this landscape for centuries. If you ever need a moment that reminds you how incredible our world can be… just follow the river. 🌿✨

Since reading "Guilin's scenery is the best under heaven" in elementary school textbooks 🌿 I always thought that to fully experience the Li River landscape painting, you needed several days off. Actually, starting from nearby cities by car, a weekend 2 days 1 night trip is just right! No long-distance rush, no soldier-like forced travel, you can check in at Guilin’s city landmarks and enjoy the essence of the Li River scenery, combining the old town’s lively atmosphere with karst landscapes all in one trip. Here is a tested relaxed self-driving route that avoids tourist traps. Weekend travelers driving themselves can copy this plan directly! 🚗 Travel guide | A must-save for self-driving tourists 📍 Destination: Guilin city + Xingping ancient town (Li River prime section) ✅ Self-driving plan (top choice for freedom) Highways from surrounding cities lead directly to Guilin city. The road conditions are smooth, with continuous karst peaks along the way. Driving from Guilin city to Xingping ancient town takes about 1.5 hours on a two-way scenic road. ⚠️ Self-driving tips Parking is tight in Xingping ancient town during peak season. Navigate to [Xingping ancient town official parking lot]. Parking costs 10–20 yuan/day. Do not park randomly on rural roads to avoid fines and refuse roadside villagers’ unofficial parking services. Motor vehicles are restricted inside the Ten-Mile Gallery during the day. It’s recommended to park your car upon arrival and rent an electric bike for more flexible sightseeing. ⚠️ Major self-driving pitfall: The long-route boat from Guilin Mopanshan dock to Yangshuo is one-way only! People and cars are separated, so self-driving tourists must not choose this. Prioritize round-trip boats from Xingping, so you can return to your parking spot after the tour. 🎫 Attraction ticket reference Elephant Trunk Hill: free, real-name reservation in advance via official account Xingping Li River round-trip boat: about 120 yuan per person 20 yuan RMB viewing platform: open to the public for free Yulong River bamboo raft: charged by section, the Jinlong Bridge to Jiuxian section is the most popular ❗ Yulong River two-person bamboo raft restrictions: children under 1 meter, pregnant women, and seniors over 70 cannot ride 📅 Detailed 2-day itinerary | relaxed, no rush version Day 1 Head to Guilin | city landmarks and Two Rivers and Four Lakes night tour Morning | Drive from nearby cities, arrive in Guilin city around noon Noon | Check in to the hotel, visit a local favorite rice noodle shop to taste authentic Guilin marinated rice noodles Afternoon | [Elephant Trunk Hill scenic area] Guilin city landmark. Walk slowly along the Li River trail to find the classic elephant drinking water photo spot. The reflection on the water and Moon Water Cave lake surface naturally create an ink painting effect. The path is flat and easy for elders and children. Evening | Stroll through East and West Alleys and Xiaoyao Building to feel the old town’s lively atmosphere Night | Walk along the riverside path of Two Rivers and Four Lakes, enjoy the night view of the Sun and Moon Twin Towers lit up. No need to pay for a boat tour; walking and taking photos along the shore offers the same great vibe. 🏨 Accommodation: around Elephant Hill / Zhengyang pedestrian street in Guilin city (prefer hotels with free parking) Day 2 Li River prime scenery | check in at Xingping ancient town → drive back ⏰ Recommended to leave at 8:30 AM to Xingping ancient town to avoid midday crowds! ▫️ Morning | Take the Li River round-trip boat from Xingping dock The route passes Nine Horse Painting Hill and Huangbu reflections, the background of the 20 yuan RMB note. Peaks stretch continuously on both sides, the river sparkles, and you can see the landscape painting from your textbooks in person. After disembarking, walk a few minutes to the viewing platform. Remember to bring your banknote for photos. ▫️ Noon | Find food in Xingping ancient town’s old street, leisurely stroll the old street and ancient theater stage, just a light walk to avoid overpriced souvenir shops along the street. ▫️ Afternoon | Choose one flexible option Option A | Relaxed: stroll freely along the ancient town riverbank, enjoy the breeze and rest Option B | Nature: visit the Yulong River area to admire rural peaks from a distance, avoid long queues for bamboo rafts Around 3:30 PM start driving back, allow plenty of time and avoid driving at night. 💡 Friendly tip: If traveling with elders or children, avoid long queues for bamboo rafts. Walking along the river for sightseeing is easier and less tiring. 🍲 Local food recommendations | authentic Guilin flavors for all ages Food is concentrated in Guilin Tiexi Food City, Zhengyang pedestrian street, and Xingping ancient town old street. Average cost 50–70 yuan per person. ✅ Guilin marinated rice noodles | a must-try! Recommended pot-cooked marinated flavor, a common local breakfast, portion size just right ✅ Yangshuo sword bone fish beer fish | no fine bones, rich broth, suitable for the whole family. Inform in advance if you don’t eat spicy ✅ Lipu taro pork | soft, fragrant, sweet, fatty but not greasy, a classic northern Guilin home dish ✅ Ai leaf cake | soft, fragrant, sweet snack, available at street stalls everywhere ✅ Osmanthus jelly | cool and refreshing, a must-have dessert when strolling the ancient town ✅ Gongcheng oil tea | local specialty, try according to your taste ⚠️ Tips: local dishes tend to be sour and spicy. If you don’t eat spicy, be sure to tell the restaurant in advance to avoid spice! 🏡 Accommodation guide | choose according to self-driving needs 1️⃣ Guilin city · Elephant Hill / Zhengyang pedestrian street area [top choice for this trip] Price: 160–350 yuan/night Advantages: walking distance to Elephant Trunk Hill and Two Rivers and Four Lakes, many restaurants and supermarkets nearby; prioritize hotels with free parking to avoid searching for parking spots. ❌ Pitfall: avoid hotels far from the city center, as the drive to Xingping the next day will be much longer. 2️⃣ Riverside guesthouse in Xingping ancient town Price: 200–400 yuan/night Advantages: open the window and see the Li River, stunning scenery, ideal for early risers who want to photograph morning mist on the river Disadvantages: fewer dining options, better for those who plan to stay in Xingping on the first day. ⚠️ Practical travel tips | full of useful info 🧥 Dressing guide: subtropical climate, hot and humid during the day, comfortable in the morning and evening. Breathable short sleeves with a light sun protection jacket; riverbank stone paths are slippery year-round, so non-slip sports shoes are essential. Light-colored clothes and shirts make photos with mountain and river backgrounds more striking. 🧴 Sun protection: strong UV in spring and summer, always carry sunscreen and a sun hat; frequent mountain showers, bring a foldable umbrella or raincoat. 📸 Best photo times: before 9 AM, the river mist is soft and the mountain and river atmosphere is at its best; strong midday light is better for indoor shopping and rest. ❌ Avoid travel pitfalls ① Be cautious of roadside sellers offering cheap bamboo rafts or one-day tours. Book tickets through official channels first. ② Be careful buying silver, jade, and other expensive souvenirs in the ancient town. ③ Do not take private unlicensed bamboo rafts, as they pose safety risks. 🥤 Supplies suggestion: bring your own drinking water and snacks, as drinks in scenic spots and ancient towns are expensive. ⏱️ Peak season reminder: during summer and holidays, book boat tickets and hotels 3–5 days in advance. Travel summary No need for long-distance travel to reach the world-famous Guilin scenery. A weekend 2 days 1 night self-driving escape, surrounded by green peaks and winding blue waters, strolling ancient town streets and savoring authentic rice noodles. The city’s accumulated anxiety and fatigue will be gently healed by the peaceful Li River landscape. For those planning a short getaway, this guide is recommended to save and use!

🏞️ [The finest scenery under heaven] "Guilin's scenery is the finest under heaven," and the Li River is the most direct proof of this. On a sunny day, the Li River's emerald waters wind through karst peaks. Green mountains stretch along both banks, their peaks reflected in the clear water. The mountains and water meet, like a slowly unfurling ink wash painting. As you cruise downstream, the scenery on both banks constantly changes, with each section having its own beauty. 🌊 [The river's elegance] The beauty of the Li River lies in its elegance and vastness. The river is wide, with clear, emerald water. On sunny days, the blue sky and white clouds are reflected on the surface, blending the mountains and water into one. The karst peaks on both banks vary in shape—some are rounded and graceful, others steep and rugged—like natural landscape sculptures. The Xingping area is particularly famous, where you can see classic Li River scenery and pastoral villages at the same time. 🛶 [How to tour] You can choose a bamboo raft or a cruise ship to tour the Li River. Bamboo rafts are closer to the water, allowing you to feel the river breeze and be immersed in the scenery, while cruise ships offer a higher, more stable view. Sunny days are the most photogenic time on the Li River, as the layers of the landscape are clear and the colors are pure. Surrendering your heart to these emerald waters and green mountains is the most authentic Guilin-style romance. 📸 [Photography tips] When photographing the Li River, there is often a light mist on the water in the early morning, making the landscape appear and disappear, which is very atmospheric. During the day under clear skies, shooting with the light can capture clear reflections on the water. During the boat trip, keep your camera ready for sections where the karst peaks are concentrated. The combination of pastoral scenes and the landscape in the Xingping area makes for the best photos.

The Li River cruise from Yangshuo to Guilin is truly breathtaking. Drifting gently downstream, you pass endless karst peaks rising straight from the water, their reflections rippling with every turn. Bamboo groves, quiet villages, and fishermen along the banks make the journey feel timeless. Mist softens the mountains, light changes by the minute, and the scenery never repeats itself. It’s not just a route between two places, but a slow, unforgettable immersion into one of China’s most iconic landscapes. #LiRiverCruise #Yangshuo #Guilin #ChinaTravel #KarstMountains #ScenicJourney #SlowTravel #NaturalWonder #chinaadventures
