Dunhuang Orion Inn

Seriously impressed! Absolutely loved this room. This was the best stop on our Qinghai-Gansu trip! After a long drive, I was really worried about not sleeping well at high altitude, but this hotel was such a pleasant surprise. The room was super clean, and it wasn't dry or uncomfortable at night. The staff were very kind and responded quickly to any issues. The environment is quiet, so the quality of rest was excellent. It's a warm haven on a high-altitude journey, and I truly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

When booking a hotel, this one immediately caught my eye – the Dunhuang vibe was strong! It's so close to Mingsha Mountain, just a 5-minute walk away. Although it's a 15-minute drive from the city center and night market, I debated for a while and finally decided to split my stay between the city and Mingsha Mountain for two nights. This particular night at the Mingsha Mountain hotel truly exceeded all expectations! 🏜️ Environment The guesthouse has a natural desert filter; you can see Mingsha Mountain right from the courtyard. We even got to watch the 'camel commute' on their way home, haha 🐫! The courtyard is filled with jujube trees and small nectarine trees, though sadly, it wasn't harvest season yet. 😋 🥛 Food & Drink Complimentary specialty yogurt, fruit, snacks, and drinks were available for us to take as much as we wanted. When we checked out, the staff even gave me a bag and told me to take more – so generous! 🛋️ Room We booked two rooms, and one of them had a large terrace plus a small balcony. Chatting and having BBQ skewers on the terrace was amazing; the space felt big enough to fit eight dorm rooms! 😂 🍜 Breakfast The restaurant has an open kitchen, making it feel as warm and cozy as being at home! 🥹🫶🏻 The beef noodles had an incredibly generous amount of beef – no exaggeration, they were delicious! 💬 The front desk lady was super chatty and told us all about her Qinghai-Gansu grand loop travel stories 😉 She even showed us a shortcut to Mingsha Mountain, hehe. If I go to Dunhuang again, it will definitely be because of this hotel!!

The B&B's location is absolutely fantastic! It's just a 5-6 minute walk through a small lane to get to Mingsha Mountain. It's also not far from the Mogao Grottoes, Dunhuang Museum, and Shazhou Night Market. We arrived early on our check-in day, and the owner enthusiastically treated us to a free breakfast! 😍 The air conditioning in the room was a bit tricky to turn on, and the shower drain was slow, but when we called the front desk to report it, their service was incredibly prompt. Thumbs up! 👍

I never leave hotel reviews, but I have to recommend Orion Hotel. The decor is very stylish, and the rooms are incredibly spacious. This is by far the best hotel experience I've had on my Qinghai-Gansu Loop trip. The service is excellent, with unlimited drinks, fruit, and coffee. It's also just a 5-minute walk to Crescent Spring. The only minor downside is that, perhaps because it's in a village, you can constantly smell camel dung outside the room. Thankfully, the smell doesn't permeate the room itself.

Amazing! The breakfast was delicious! The staff member (a lady) was incredibly warm and enthusiastic! I absolutely loved the upgraded room! Being able to get an iced Americano in the middle of the desert is a huge plus, seriously, a million thumbs up to the lady! It's super close to Mingsha Mountain too! Anyone wanting to see a desert concert should definitely stay here!!

I brought my child to Dunhuang for the summer holiday and we stayed at the Orion Hotel. The guesthouse has a lovely desert theme, and the room was quite spacious and very clean. There were no mosquitoes, though we did encounter some flies, but they were dealt with promptly and diligently. The breakfast at the guesthouse was delicious, offering porridge, soy milk, side dishes, coarse grains, as well as noodles and wontons, all of which tasted great. They also provide unlimited yogurt, water, and beverages at the entrance, which was fantastic given the hot weather – we never had to worry about not having something to cool down and quench our thirst. The guesthouse also offers self-service laundry, which I really appreciated, as it meant I didn't have to pack dirty clothes in my suitcase. It's very close to Mingsha Mountain, just a 5-7 minute walk, which was incredibly convenient.

The owners and staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, always ready to help with any request. The breakfast was fantastic, especially the beef noodles and wontons – absolutely delicious! The room was a good size, and the courtyard was a lovely spot to enjoy tea and the views. Overall, I was very satisfied and would definitely recommend it.

The room was spacious and beautiful. It's super close to Mingsha Mountain, just about a ten-minute walk, and the guesthouse staff even walked with us for a bit of the way. The path was easy to navigate, and parking was convenient. The breakfast was excellent. We stayed for two nights and were very satisfied. They also provided plenty of free fruits and snacks. The guesthouse owner was incredibly warm and hospitable, chatting with us a lot. We're very grateful for their hospitality. When we left, they even told us to take some fruit for the road, which was so thoughtful. Since there were only two of us and we don't eat much, we just took one nashi pear, and it was so refreshing and sweet! 👍👍
