Since it was both my friend's and my first time visiting Shangri-La, and our very first night after arriving, we really wanted somewhere comfortable and reassuring to stay. After reading through many online reviews in advance, we finally chose Hotel Indigo Shangri-La. Once we checked in, we found that this choice was truly worth it!
【Views & Room】
卖家(The hotel) thoughtfully arranged a room with a great view for us, and we were genuinely pleasantly surprised upon entering! The balcony is exceptionally large with a wide, unobstructed view. Sitting on the balcony allows you to fully enjoy the scenery outside. Later on, we also stayed at the Atour next door; while the view there was also lovely, by comparison, I still preferred the scenery at the Indigo.
【Facilities & Experience】
As this was our first trip to a high-altitude plateau, we were somewhat worried about altitude sickness. The room is equipped with an oxygen supply system that ran continuously throughout our stay, which gave us a lot of peace of mind. The room also features a Dyson hair dryer, providing a fantastic user experience—it left our hair very smooth after drying. Additionally, the bottled water supply in the room was very generous, making the overall stay extremely comfortable.
【Breakfast & Dining】
Another huge surprise during this stay was the hotel breakfast! It offered a rich variety with distinct local characteristics. Butter tea, chicken rice noodles, *erkuai* (rice cakes), milk curd cakes, *tsampa*, freshly baked flower pastries, and more were all available. You can practically check off all the specialty foods of Shangri-La in one stop right at the hotel, without having to run around looking for them individually. Some items even tasted better and more authentic than what we had outside.
That said, local butter tea still holds the crown—Grandma's butter tea was a bit more superior, tasting much richer, hahaha. Moreover, the view from the breakfast restaurant is fantastic. Sitting by the window, you can enjoy the scenery outside while overlooking the ancient town. Having a leisurely breakfast in the morning and taking in the view was truly a wonderful treat.
【Service & Birthday Surprise】
I want to extend a special thanks to Daisy, Klaus, and Mark for their warm help and attentive service, which added so much warmth to our travel memories. Before check-in, I contacted the butler in advance to let them know it happened to be my friend's birthday. The hotel thoughtfully prepared a strawberry cake for us, and we are so grateful! The cake was rich in milky flavor and tasted delicious, packed with tons of strawberries. My friend said she had never seen a cake with so many strawberries before, hahaha (her exact words). We originally planned to go out for a stroll that afternoon, but the two of us ended up eating cake at the hotel and couldn't stop until we were completely stuffed, hahaha. I never expected that a small birthday surprise during our trip could bring us so much joy.
In addition, the hotel provides buggy service for getting in and out, which is extremely convenient, and the staff proactively helped with our luggage, making the whole process hassle-free. Thanks again to Daisy, Klaus, and Mark for taking such good care of us, making us feel so much warmth right upon our arrival in Shangri-La.
【Conclusion】
All in all, this was a fantastic stay. From the room view, facilities, and breakfast to the meticulous and thoughtful service, everything made our first day in Shangri-La comfortable and reassuring. Especially for those visiting Shangri-La for the first time and wanting a comfortable start to their journey, this is truly a great choice. If I visit Shangri-La again next time, I would still prioritize staying here, and I'd be more than happy to recommend it to friends planning a trip to Shangri-La!
