Banyan Tree Lijiang

I came to Lijiang alone for a relaxing vacation, and this is my third time choosing Banyan Tree. It consistently delivers excellence and maintains high standards, showing no signs of age. I even got a surprise room upgrade! 🤩 The overall experience was very comfortable. The hotel's location is excellent, within walking distance of Shuhe and the Wild Country. The hotel grounds are serene, backed by the snowy mountains, making it perfect for a quiet stroll and great for photos. The room was cleaned meticulously, the bedding was comfortable, and the hygiene was impeccable. The hotel offers many unique experiential activities that you can participate in during your leisure time, keeping you entertained even without leaving the premises. The staff were gentle and polite. I especially want to thank my butler, Aureliano. He struck the perfect balance, responded promptly to requests, and helped arrange various matters without being intrusive, allowing me to enjoy my solitude and relaxation. Those who appreciate tranquility will find excellent rest here. My stay was very pleasant and I highly recommend it.

It's rare for me to give a hotel a low rating, but my conclusion is that, aside from the beautiful scenery and abundant breakfast, there's nothing commendable about this place. Eighty percent of the room rate clearly goes towards the view. I wasn't added to the butler's WeChat before check-in, nor did they call or text to inquire about anything. I only found out about the butler after checking in. Wanting to avoid bothering staff too much since we were only staying one night, we still found the humidifier (which was requested at the time of booking) wasn't there, and the welcome fruit wasn't fresh – many parts of the apple were bruised with rotten spots (see reference image 5). Despite booking the shuttle specifically for breakfast, the driver immediately asked for our check-out luggage. All the facilities were old and outdated, making my parents' stay very uncomfortable. It was a terrible experience; I had high expectations for a Banyan Tree stay and was very disappointed. I hope for improvements.

The hotel is right next to Shuhe Ancient Town. The room was very quiet, and the service was attentive, living up to the Banyan Tree's reputation and standards. The hotel has added many experience activities related to local culture, which the children loved and made the whole family happy. The SPA oil was of good quality, and the technique was also quite good. Our butler, Elin, provided attentive service, responded promptly, and effectively handled various small issues we encountered.

I chose the Banyan Tree over the Grand Hyatt Lijiang because I was worried about altitude sickness at the Grand Hyatt's mountain-top location. The Banyan Tree's scenery right from the moment you step through the gate is absolutely stunning. There was a small incident during my stay, but the butler resolved it promptly, which significantly improved my impression. The room is very spacious and has a charming, antique feel. It's definitely worth staying here.

The hotel boasts a great location, nestled between Shuhe Ancient Town and Baisha Ancient Town. It's about a ten-minute walk to the former and a ten-minute drive to the latter, making both easily accessible. This is an established upscale hotel, quite large with a pleasant environment. Although the buildings feel a bit dense and the layout somewhat uninspired, the greenery is abundant. Walking through, you're greeted by a subtle yet refreshing scent of osmanthus, which is absolutely delightful. There's also a small but charming lotus pond that adds to the serene ambiance. The staff are highly professional; they always greet you politely and enthusiastically whenever you encounter them. The breakfast at the restaurant is quite comprehensive, and more importantly, the quality of the food is exceptional. Whether it's pastries, cold dishes, or steamed items, the ingredients and flavors are top-notch. What truly stood out was the highly personalized service from the restaurant staff. On the day I checked out, knowing my next destination was quite far and I wouldn't have reliable food options along the way, I inquired if I could pack some food from breakfast. The staff not only said it was absolutely fine and simply required signing a food takeaway agreement, but they also immediately brought me packaging boxes. I was extremely impressed by this, as it truly reflects the hotel's commitment to service quality. However, there are a few drawbacks, mainly concerning the facilities. It's not that the facilities are old; an older look isn't a problem as long as they're functional and comfortable. But in my room, there was no master switch for the lights; each light had to be turned on/off individually. There was only one nightstand, and on the other side of the bed, the electrical outlet above was blocked by the headboard, forcing me to use the lower outlet for charging my phone, which was quite inconvenient. The headboard was too low and made of wood, making it impossible to find a comfortable leaning position, no matter how I adjusted the pillows. Additionally, the showerhead wasn't very comfortable, which doesn't align with the hotel's upscale positioning.

The hotel and room views were excellent, giving off a true vacation vibe, and the cleanliness was also good. Our butler, Aureliano, was very attentive and super responsive! Overall, the experience was fantastic.

Overall, the hotel is pretty good, with a decent-sized area. However, the service isn't as polished as other Banyan Tree resorts and needs improvement. On the bright side, the hotel manager called to apologize and offered compensation, which was a nice gesture.

Extremely satisfied! The environment was fantastic, and the breakfast spread was abundant. This was by far the best accommodation I've had in nearly two weeks in Yunnan. The complimentary travel photoshoot offered by the hotel also turned out surprisingly well. Highly recommend it!

The hotel is a bit old, which explains why the price is lower than what you'd find in other cities. Still, it's pretty decent. For families traveling with parents, it's definitely better value than a guesthouse costing over a thousand yuan. Breakfast was also alright.
