We split our five nights in Madrid across two stays here, and it was the right call both times. After a long flight from San Francisco, the last thing you want is a complicated arrival. We got the opposite. Guillermo and Juan Luis at the front desk welcomed us warmly, walked us through the neighborhood, and marked up a map with nearby sights and restaurants. The porters took our bags up while we got oriented. A genuinely smooth landing after a long day. We were also informed that our room had been upgraded, a welcome perk of Marriott Bonvoy membership. The room was large and beautifully appointed, with a full sitting area, sofa, coffee table, and dining table alongside the bedroom. When we returned for our second stay, the front desk recognized us immediately. The new room was on the top floor overlooking the park, and it was exceptional. The hotel itself is worth mentioning separately. Stunning artwork throughout, a gorgeous old spiral staircase, a comfortable bar, and a beautiful dining room for breakfast. It has the feel of a historic property that’s been done right. The location is the final piece. Directly across from Parque del Retiro, one of Madrid’s great urban parks, with paths, fountains, statues, and a beautiful lake. The Prado is also within easy walking distance, as are plenty of excellent restaurants. Madrid can be crowded and hectic, and having that park a few steps away was a genuine pleasure, especially for unwinding after travel days. Among the four hotels we stayed at in Spain, this one stood out for its staff, its beauty, and its setting. Highly recommended.
