this hotel has no security! My backpack was stolen by a thief right in the hotel lobby while I was talking to the front desk agent. I was standing right at the Front Desk and have just signed my registration card. My backpack was resting on top of my carry-on case next to me. I turned away to talk to the front desk agent, and when I turned back to my bags, my backpack was gone. The hotel CCTV caught an image of the thief who was very fast to snatch my bag. He could not be identified as he was wearing a broad rimmed hat. I can't help but think tht this thief knows his way around the hotel public area and the cameras. Everything was gone - backpack, mobile phone, credit cards, passport and ID cards, cash, books, shawl, and everything that I usually travel with. The hotel has too many entrances and exits and no security guard on duty. I was stuck in Madrid and the hotel for a week to get temporary travel documents but the security never improved while I was there. the elevators did not require a passkey to activate. The staircases were wide open. There were no guards at the muliple entrances and exits, Would I ever go back again? No! Would I recommend any security-conscious traveler to stay? No!

The service was abrupt some times. One female staff at the reception gets impatient and pulls a long face sometimes. The others are very nice.

We splurged on our last night in Madrid and stayed at the Only You Boutique Hotel. The staff is as friendly and gorgeous as the rooms are! The entire hotel is set decorated like a Wed Anderson film (but less annoying — lol). Location is pretty spectacular — close to everything we wanted to see. We were tired in the evening and decided to eat at the hotel restaurant — a wonderful dinner served by a very attentive staff with excellent wine choices. The rooms were clean, spacious and ours, being a corner room, had a breath-taking view of two of the beautiful old-world charm streets (and two bathrooms — spoiled!). Breakfast was mouthwatering — an endless supply of delicious treats, both warm and chilled. Well worth staying at when staying upscale, without worrying about pretension!
