based on 111 reviewsShibaozhai is located in Shibao Town, Zhong County, Chongqing. It was first built during the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty and was expanded and renovated multiple times between the Kangxi and Tongzhi reigns of the Qing Dynasty. It is a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level, a National Scenic Area, a National AAAA-level Tourist Attraction, a China International Cultural Exchange Base for Overseas Chinese, a Chongqing Civilized Tourist Scenic Area, and one of the first historic gardens in Chongqing.
The attraction integrates natural and cultural views, and the architectural complex consists of six parts: the entrance path, the mountain gate, the fort tower, the Kuixing Pavilion, the Tianzi Hall, and the downhill plank road. The fort tower is one of the existing multi-story chuantou-style wooden structures in China, showcasing the superb architectural achievements of ancient Chinese laborers. It is a shining pearl of southern folk architecture that enjoys a high reputation in the tourism industry both at home and abroad.
