Tempo by Hilton Times Square

Right next to Times Square, and my room had a window with a direct view of Times Square, including three big screens. Many people think the New York subway is very dangerous, but I actually found it quite safe, and the subway station is right downstairs from the hotel. The only downside is that the room is too small; I couldn't even open my suitcase. I had to take out clothes and close it right away. But honestly, the room was super clean, and because it's small, the air conditioning cooled it down very efficiently in just two minutes.

We requested a twin room, and it was surprisingly spacious for such a prime location. The design was quite impressive and visually pleasing. However, I won't be staying here again, and here are two reasons why: 1. The bedding was unbelievably dirty. We didn't even have to look for it; the obvious stains included blood, yellowing, and various black marks, some as large as my palm. These glaring issues made me question the quality of their housekeeping and laundry services. 2. The air conditioning was like a wind tunnel. One night, the cold AC suddenly started blowing warm (though not scalding) air. Plus, the fan speed control in my room didn't work, and the AC would hum crazily. I had to turn it off to sleep, but then it got a bit warm. Other points: 1. The entrance isn't on Broadway; it's around the corner on 47th Street. 2. It doesn't feel like a typical hotel. There's no common guest lobby or standard hotel amenities. Instead, there's a self-service convenience store and a restaurant/bar. 3. They charge a default $34.5 daily urban destination charge. I have no issue with this as it was noted during booking (though uncommon). Upon check-in, the front desk provides a business card-sized explanation of what this $34.5 covers. However, perhaps due to understaffing, the front desk personnel weren't very patient or enthusiastic; they wouldn't elaborate on anything. The card was handed to me without any explanation of what it was, or when the $10 daily voucher (which doesn't accumulate and expires) counted as one night. Also, the items in the snack shop are outrageously expensive. Definitely don't choose anything over $10. I picked a $16 roll, so after deducting $10, it was still $6, whereas it would be $4-6 at a convenience store outside. 4. The quality of the towels was just average, and there's no water provided in the room. Toothbrushes and slippers can be requested by phone, but the phone mostly only connects to the front desk. I called four times and only got through twice. And then you're expected to tip for the delivery of slippers and toothbrushes.
