Complete Introduction to Shanglin Six Maidens Pool 1. Location Located in Yunmengzhuang, Zhailu Village, Xiyan Town, Shanglin County, deep in the Olive Grand Canyon on the eastern foothills of Daming Mountain, in the middle section of Tianhe River. It is about 25 kilometers from Shanglin County town and about a 1-hour drive from Binyang. Close to the Gulin Expressway exit, it is a pristine waterfall and pool secret hidden deep in the mountains. 2. Origin of the Name (Folk Legend) It is said that seven fairies came down to earth to play in the water here. After the Weaver Fairy was summoned back to heaven, the remaining six fairies lingered by the mountain spring, unwilling to leave, bathing here all year round. This main pool was thus named Six Maidens Pool. The entire waterfall stretches over 400 meters, divided into three pools. Six Maidens Pool is the most scenic and famous section. Locals also collectively call the entire waterfall the Three Pools Waterfall. 3. Natural Scenic Features 1. Water Quality and Temperature The pool water is infused with mountain forest plants and natural herbs, giving it a clear tea color that glows golden-green under the noon sun. The water temperature remains between 15–20°C year-round, providing a cool and refreshing natural cold-water swimming pool in the summer. 2. Canyon Landform Surrounded by primitive dense forest, the waterfall cascades down hundred-meter stone cliffs. The river valley is filled with large smooth green stones, connecting various shallow pools and deep pools along the way. The canyon is rich in negative oxygen ions and is known as a natural mountain oxygen bar. 3. Scenic Highlights On sunny days, the water surface reflects beautiful light and shadow, with mist swirling around the waterfall. The canyon is deep and secluded with few people, featuring wild and pristine scenery, making it perfect for atmospheric mountain and water photography.

Every parent knows the biggest challenge in summer is finding the right place for kids to play in the water. City swimming pools are crowded and smell strongly of chlorine. My child has sensitive skin and broke out in red spots after two visits last year. Later, I followed my close friend to scout around and finally found several truly kid-friendly spots. Today, I’m sharing these places based on my own experience. Daming Mountain Hanjiang Happy Valley Perfect for families wanting to cool off in the mountains on weekends. About a 1.5-hour drive from Nanning, the road after the highway exit is easy to navigate. No entrance fee, only parking charges. After parking, walk a few hundred meters to the stream. The water is flowing mountain spring water, very clear. The deep areas are over 1 meter, and the shallow parts reach the ankles, so both adults and kids can find a comfortable spot. You can bring your own tent and food to barbecue by the water or rent a stove. After noon, the canyon is shaded and feels very comfortable. Weekends get busy, so it’s best to leave early. If you bring a lot of stuff, a small cart is helpful. The downside is that the middle section of the scenic area is under construction, so the water is a bit murky. It’s best to head upstream when you arrive. The rafting activity charges separately. Another reason this spot is great for kids is the mild water temperature, unlike the freezing water in other Daming Mountain canyons. Jinshan Water Manor My friend and I both agree this is a premium water play spot, perfect for frequent visits with kids. Jinshan Water Manor is close to the city, about a 10-minute drive from Anji Bus Station. The water here is some of the cleanest I’ve seen around Nanning. It’s not tap water or surface spring water but thousand-year-old water drawn from deep underground karst caves about 100 meters down. The water quality is the same as the water flowing through the Est rock layer in Tongduan Tianchuang, clear with a blue tint. At first, I thought the water would be as cold as in Daming Mountain, but it’s actually just right for kids. There’s also a shallow pool with only a thin layer of water that gets warm under the hot sun, so kids can run between two pools and experience two different water temperatures. This water temperature is safe for kids to play all day. The owner changes the water daily, draining the pool after guests leave and refilling it with fresh water the next day. My child soaked in the water all afternoon with no skin issues, which is very important for sensitive skin. Besides water play, there are zip lines, bamboo rafts, off-road racing, and over 30 activities to keep kids entertained all day. Daming Mountain Neizhao Water Play Area Neizhao Village is at the foot of Daming Mountain, about an hour’s drive from Nanning. The main attraction for kids is the man-made slide where they can rent inner tubes and slide down with the water, keeping them entertained all afternoon. The stream is fresh mountain water, very clear, with varying depths suitable for both adults and kids. This area is a cluster of water play spots with many farmhouses and campsites nearby where you can eat, barbecue, and stay overnight at affordable prices. On busy weekends, watch out for water quality issues because the farmhouses and campsites near the waterway produce wastewater. The restrooms are crowded, and where the waste goes is unclear, so it’s best to stay closer to the water source. Also, the canyon stones are slippery, so be careful when going further in. Shanglin Yunmeng Village Ideal for families who enjoy outdoor adventures. About a two-hour drive from Nanning. The main water play spot here is Liunu Pond, which has very clear, shallow water safe for kids. You can rent tents and barbecue nearby, and parking is convenient. For those wanting a deeper experience, there are professional stream trekking and waterfall rappelling activities lasting about 5 hours, led by guides. These are suitable for older kids and families who like outdoor activities. The mountain roads are steep, so be cautious when passing other vehicles. Beautiful Jiangnan Farm Located in Jinji Village, Shajing, Jiangnan District, about a half-hour drive. Known as "Little Guilin of Nanning," it features large bamboo forests and riverbanks. Summer sun is a concern, but the dense bamboo forest provides good shade even at noon. Water play happens mainly in natural river channels with depths controlled under 60 cm, making it safe for kids to splash and play. The farm provides bamboo rafts and paddleboards for free, along with life jackets. During summer vacation, there are also intangible cultural heritage workshops where kids can experience traditional crafts like ancient papermaking and ethnic indigo dyeing while playing in the water. Fangchenggang Tiantang Beach This beach is very close to Nanning, about a 1.5 to 2-hour drive. Unlike Beihai, cars cannot drive onto the beach here. Water play is free, but parking near the beach costs a small fee. The beach has a gentle slope and fine sand. At low tide, you can explore the shore, digging for sandworms, collecting shells, and catching small crabs. The seawater is clear on good weather days. There are local food stalls and guesthouses where you can eat seafood or buy fresh seafood to cook yourself. Since it’s a natural beach with no dedicated cleaning, there may be some debris on the sand, so watch your step if barefoot. Also, be cautious when swimming as natural waters may have rip currents.

We planned to take the kids to Daming Mountain, but as soon as we arrived, it started pouring rain 🌧️… I thought the trip would be ruined, but it turned out this guesthouse really understands families with kids! The room we stayed in had a large soaking pool on the balcony, with a big sunshade overhead. The sound of the rain was soothing, the kids splashed happily in the warm water, and I soaked my feet and sipped coffee nearby—an experience you just don’t get on a sunny day! The guesthouse never gets boring: ✅ Third floor indoor area: kids’ playground, reading room, cinema—kids can spend the whole afternoon here ✅ Fourth floor lobby: afternoon tea delivery, locust flower powder tasting, and a plaster painting workshop at 4:30 PM ✅ Annex coffee shop/tea room, and the sixth-floor Yun Song Bar (with drinks and BBQ at night) ✅ Rainy day bonfire party moves indoors to the lobby, still lively Meals are all on the first floor: breakfast, lunch, and dinner, so no hassle with kids. 📌 Handy Tips: · Bring swimwear! You’ll want to use the soaking pool · Mosquitoes are plentiful in the rainy mountain, bring insect repellent · About 2 hours from Nanning, navigate to “Shanglin Yikesong Guesthouse” We stayed two days, and when the rain stopped, we went to Daming Mountain for some fresh air. Didn’t want to leave—definitely coming back on a sunny day! ☀️

The kids learned the picking technique of one bud and one leaf from the tea factory master, and everyone carefully picked tea leaves. Local songs played on-site, creating a great atmosphere. 💡 Knowledge and science popularization activities are very informative The cultural history class at Longmu Pavilion in Longying Village helped the children understand the Luoyue Longmu culture. The village supervisory committee director told ancient legends and folk customs, allowing the children to read the thousand-year cultural heritage through hometown stories. The visit to Dani Holy Spring Factory let the children learn about modern production processes.
