Zhongnan Mountain belongs to a section of the Qinling Mountains, from Mei County in Baoji City to Lantian County in Xi'an City in the east. It consists of scenic spots such as Nanwutai, Cuihuashan and Louguantai. Zhongnanshan is the main truth of Taoism. The people who have read Mr. Jin Yong's martial arts novels must remember the phrase “The end of the Nanshan Mountain, the tomb of the dead, the gods and heroes, and the extinction of the rivers and lakes”. Because of this, Zhongnanshan is even more mysterious. Many martial arts fans are also curious about it. They want to find the tomb of the dead and the Chongyang Palace in the book.Xi'an · 28.9 km from Zhashui

Fenghuang Town is located on the southern slope of Qinling Mountains, surrounded by mountains and rivers. The three rivers of Shechuan River, Zao River and Shuidigou River meet here to form a delta. It was called "Sancha River Mouth" in Tang and Song Dynasties, "Shechuan River Township Capital" in Yuan Dynasty, and "Shechuanli" and "Shangmengli" fifteen years after Chenghua in Ming Dynasty (1479 AD), and was renamed "Shechuanli" and "Shangmengli" during the Jiaqing period of Qing Dynasty. Phoenix Mouth" was renamed "Phoenix Town" in 1941. The winding streets of Fenghuang Town Old Street and the old houses of Ming and Qing Dynasties scattered on both sides are the distinctive features here. The traditional handmade papermaking and forging here still follow the pattern of the past. More than 60 dwellings from the Ming and Qing Dynasties are still well preserved in this ancient town, which is more than 2,000 meters long from east to west. There is a slate-covered creek along the main street, and another perpendicular to it runs through the town, forming a cross-shaped water system. The streets on both sides of the old street are full of pavements, and behind the pavilions are residences. The gate facing the street is generally made of sturdy and wear-resistant walnut wood or lacquered wood, dyed with earth paint, bright, clean and bright; the gate pier is made of stone carving flowers. The wooden houses in Fenghuang Town are relatively small, with exquisite and reasonable design, good rainproof, moisture-proof and fireproof performance. Compared with the traditional northern houses, there are many characteristics of southern houses. Walking on the old street of Fenghuang Town, you will clearly feel the difference between the buildings on the old street and the Guanzhong dwellings. From the appearance, it is more like a Huizhou dwelling, with pink walls and green tiles, decorations on both sides of the ridge, lotus or plum blossoms in the center, and animal ridges or dragon heads on both sides. Many houses are three-in and three-open, and the three yards are raised floor by floor. Such a design is more suitable for excess Shaanxi and facilitates drainage. There are many silk pressing workshops in Fenghuang Town, and the silk fabrics here are made of local pressed silk. The old trade of blacksmiths still remains.Zhashui · 30.4 km from downtown

Shaanxi History Museum

History background: Shaanxi History Museum is located in the northwest of the Dayan Pagoda in Xi'an. It is one of the landmark attractions of Xi'an. The museum was planned in 1983, started in the summer of 1986, and officially opened on June 20, 1991. It was named Shaanxi History Museum. In 2016, Shaanxi History Museum was selected as "China's 20th Century Architectural Heritage" by the Chinese Cultural Relics Society and the Chinese Architectural Society. Museum Features: Shaanxi History Museum is a large modern museum, and its completion marks a new milestone in the development of China's museum industry. This museum is a Tang-style building complex with a "central hall and four corner towers". The main and secondary buildings are well-organized, the heights are staggered, and the momentum is solemn. It integrates national traditions, local characteristics and the spirit of the times. The museum covers an area of 65,000 square meters, and houses more than 380,000 cultural relics ranging from simple stone tools used in the initial stage of ancient humans to various artifacts in social life before 1840, covering a time span of more than one million years. The cultural relics are not only numerous and diverse, but also of high quality and wide value. The collections in the museum are dazzling and exquisite. It is an art hall that showcases the history and culture of Shaanxi and ancient Chinese civilization, and is known as the "Pearl of the Ancient Capital, the Treasure House of China." There are many treasures in the museum, including bronzes from the Shang and Zhou dynasties, pottery figurines from various dynasties, gold and silver utensils from the Han and Tang dynasties, and murals from Tang tombs. Most of them are treasures from the prosperous periods of the Han and Tang dynasties, and some of them are fine items that are prohibited from leaving the country. Collection treasures: There are three exhibition halls in the center of the museum. The first exhibition hall displays cultural relics from the prehistoric civilization of Lantian ape-man 1.15 million years ago to the Qin Dynasty; the second exhibition hall displays cultural relics from the Han Dynasty and the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties; and the third exhibition hall is mainly cultural relics from the prosperous Tang Dynasty. Each exhibition hall has its own treasure. There are special exhibition halls on the east and west sides of the central hall. On the west side, there is a "Special Exhibition of Tang Dynasty Treasures (Treasure Hall, Cultural Relics Unearthed in Hejiacun)", where many fine gold and silver wares from the heyday of the Tang Dynasty were transferred to be exhibited. On the east side, there is a "Treasures of Tang Dynasty Murals Exhibition", which exhibits a number of authentic Tang Dynasty tomb murals. The tripod The tripod is placed in the first exhibition hall at the entrance of the museum, and it can be said to be the treasure of the first exhibition hall. The replica is placed here, and the original is kept in the warehouse. Inscription on the outer wall: The inscription "All under heaven is the king's land; all the people are the king's subjects" reflects the land ownership system in the Western Zhou Dynasty. There are four lines of inscriptions with 28 characters on the inner wall of the Yi Ding. The general meaning is: In early August of a certain year, Wang Jiang took back the land originally given to Shi Lu and gave it to Yi, who then made this tripod to commemorate it. Queen's Seal: One of the treasures worth seeing in the second exhibition hall is the jade seal of the empress of the Han Dynasty, which is displayed separately. The seal is made of Xinjiang Hetian mutton-fat jade and is engraved with a Chihu, symbolizing royal power. Three-color camel figurines carrying music: This world-famous tri-color camel figurine carrying music is located in the third exhibition hall of Shaanxi History Museum. Its overall appearance and color are well preserved. There are seven men sitting on the camel's back, holding different musical instruments in their hands. Among them, the figurine holding the clapboard is listening attentively, as if intoxicated by the wonderful music. The woman in the middle is performing, and the camel opens its mouth wide and looks up to the sky, as if it is also singing with its master. Gold-inlaid animal head agate cup: This cultural relic, located in the special exhibition "Tang Dynasty Relics Special Exhibition", is one of the first 64 national treasures listed by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage that are never allowed to be exhibited abroad. There are also many other treasures such as black-glazed oil-drip bowls, green-glazed porcelain pots with handles, gilded silver bamboo-joint copper incense burners, gold bowls with mandarin duck and lotus petal patterns, and so on.Xi'an · 61.7 km from Zhashui

Xi'an Museum

Xi'an Museum is a modern comprehensive museum built around the historic site of Jianfu Temple from the Tang Dynasty and its iconic structure, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda. It integrates cultural relic preservation, academic research, exhibition displays, public education, and garden leisure activities. The museum's core area occupies the original site of Jianfu Temple, a royal monastery during the Tang Dynasty, with the well-preserved Small Wild Goose Pagoda serving as its distinctive landmark and spiritual center. The temple ruins and pagoda not only form the foundation of Xi'an Museum but also serve as its key outdoor historical exhibition area and visitor highlight. The main museum building, located north of the ancient temple site, creates a unique cultural space where "museum, pagoda, temple, and garden" harmoniously coexist, vividly showcasing Xi'an's historical continuity from ancient times to the present. Xi'an Museum officially opened to the public on May 18, 2007. Established to comprehensively showcase the glorious history and brilliant culture of Xi'an (ancient Chang'an) as the capital of thirteen dynasties, it filled the gap of lacking a comprehensive urban history museum in Xi'an. Collection highlights: The museum houses approx. 130,000 precious artifacts from various historical periods of Xi'an, including over 10,000 nationally classified Grade III or above cultural relics. The collection spans from prehistoric times to the Ming and Qing dynasties, with particular emphasis on artifacts from the golden ages of the Zhou, Qin, Han, and Tang dynasties. Featured items include bronze ware, jade pieces, gold and silver objects, ceramics, murals, stone steles with epitaphs, and Buddhist statues, systematically showcasing the political, economic, cultural, social life, and foreign exchanges of ancient Chang'an. Main exhibition: The permanent exhibition "Ancient Capital Xi'an" traces the city's development history through precious artifacts, models, charts, and multimedia displays. It chronologically presents Xi'an's evolution and achievements as both a capital city (Zhou's Fenghao, Qin's Xianyang, Han's Chang'an, Sui-Tang's Chang'an) and a prefectural city (Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties). Unique setting: The museum's standout feature is its environment. Visitors can not only explore modern exhibition halls but also stroll through the expansive heritage park, which includes the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, the ancient architectural complex of Jianfu Temple (featuring structures like the Ming Dynasty bell tower housing a Jin Dynasty ancient bell), an ancient stone carving art exhibition area, and garden views. Here, they can immerse themselves in the charm of this thousand-year-old capital right at the historical site. The renowned "Morning Bell at Wild Goose Pagoda" view adds to its fame. World heritage site: As one of the key heritage sites in the "Silk Roads: the Routes Network of Chang'an-Tianshan Corridor" UNESCO World Heritage, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda and its surrounding Jianfu Temple historic area represent the core cultural value of Xi'an Museum. Function and positioning: The museum serves not only as a vital center for cultural relic collection, research, and exhibition, but also as an urban cultural park where citizens can relax and immerse themselves in history. It plays a significant role in social education and cultural exchange.Xi'an · 63.5 km from Zhashui

The site of Jianfu Temple within the Small Wild Goose Pagoda Heritage Park forms the core component and outdoor area of Xi'an Museum. It earned its name because its pagoda shape resembles the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda but is smaller. Compared to the bustle of the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, this place offers much more tranquility. At the base of the pagoda, exquisite stone carvings from various dynasties are displayed outdoors, including Buddhist statues, stone lions, stone horses, and hitching posts—a must-see for visitors who appreciate folk artifacts. This multi-eaved brick pagoda originally had 15 stories but now stands with 13, reaching about 43.4 meters in height. With its elegant and slender silhouette and smooth contour lines, it is a classic example of Tang Dynasty square multi-eaved pagodas. As one of Xi'an's important symbols of its ancient capital heritage, it holds the prestigious title of "Morning Bell at the Wild Goose Pagoda," one of the "Eight Scenic Wonders of Guanzhong." Jianfu Temple was originally built in 684 AD during the first year of Emperor Ruizong's reign in the Tang Dynasty, initially dedicated to honoring Emperor Gaozong. Later, between 707–710 AD during Emperor Zhongzong's reign, a pagoda was constructed within the temple to house Buddhist scriptures and statues brought back from India by the eminent monk Yijing. This is the tower named for its distinctive shape. Therefore, it is inseparable from the Jianfu Temple and serves as a physical witness to the temple's former glory and a landmark structure. After enduring the vicissitudes of time, most of the Jianfu Temple's halls and buildings no longer exist. But thisPrecious Tang Dynasty architectural relics have been preserved to this day.Xi'an · 63.6 km from Zhashui

I was just playing around and took few photos. Overall it was ok. It took about an hour to complete the experience. If you walk the Brave Road, it will take more than two hours. Because I brought my child with me, minors are not allowed to experience the Brave Road, so my child and I didn't do that. His father went and said it was quite thrilling. He finished the four items of the Brave Road in about an hour. The environment and scenery here are pretty good. My child likes to play, but he didn't play enough in one time. I don't know if he can play it again. We came out directly after playing. It would be better if we can play it again. It also depends on each person's progress. My child is more courageous and always rushes very fast. I can't catch up with him. He said he would challenge the Brave Road when he grows up, haha

Nothing is more beautiful than Zhongnan Mountain. The Condor Heroes wandered the world, and at the foot of Zhongnan Mountain lay the Tomb of the Living Dead. As night falls, the Tang Dynasty Never Sleeping City is ablaze with lights. The Tang-style architecture, adorned with twinkling palace lanterns, creates a captivating atmosphere, as if transporting you back to the glorious Tang Dynasty capital of Chang'an. The streets offer engaging live performances, including interactive NPC activities with tumbler dolls, and tourists dressed in Hanfu (traditional Han clothing) are a common sight. Adjacent to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, the pedestrian street exudes ancient charm and is bustling with activity. The only drawback is the large crowds, making some areas quite congested. Overall, the experience is fantastic, offering an immersive glimpse into the grandeur of the Tang Dynasty and making it well worth a visit.

The museum itself is nice, but the location is a bit hard to find. If you enter from the Small Wild Goose Pagoda entrance, there are very few signs along the way, and the opening hours are a bit short. There's almost nothing on the second floor; the main exhibits are on the basement level. If you're in a hurry, you can go to the basement first. The stairs are a bit ergonomically designed.

Teacher Wang is a highly knowledgeable tour guide. His explanations are rich in current events and references, making them very informative and rewarding. He is especially recommended for tour groups with children visiting Xi'an: he frequently interacts with children throughout the trip, expanding their knowledge and providing parents with educational insights. If parents prepare some basic information about Xi'an's history beforehand and guide their children during the tour, joining Teacher Wang's group will be like enjoying a feast of knowledge – a truly worthwhile experience!

The tour guide Wang Yuchen explained the Beilin Museum in detail. He told us the origins of some of the stone tablets and showed us the treasures of the museum. If there are any stone tablets you want to see, you can tell him in advance. The weather is 40 degrees, and the work is very serious and hard. Everyone asks him to explain. He is the tour guide with the most knowledge reserves I have seen in recent days.
