A bit of an effort but worth it.
We came across the rock on our first visit to New Plymouth. Now this is simply brilliant and a great challenge. However I would be wary about taking any youngsters under 4.
Only a very short drive from the heart of town this is a lovely spot to chill out and admire some stunning scenery. The main car park is at the top of the hill where you can head downto the beach area...
Excellent walk - definitely harder than it looks. You can walk up to a point before it becomes almost a rock climb which is not suitable for quite young children. There is definitely risk involved but...

Mount Paritutu Mount Climb
Fairly easy mount to climb bit beware of loose rocks etc.. great view from the top. Took about 15 mins to the top and 20 mins down.
Short boat trip to lion rock
One hour boat tour around ion rock and visit of the seal colony. Friendly host and tour guide sharing interesting insights from today and the past.
