The Cathedral of San José de Labrador - or the Tagbilaran Cathedral, is one of seven 16th century churches built by Jesuit missionaries in the island of Bohol.Tagbilaran started as a visita of the pueblo of Baclayon before becoming an independent parish in 1767. Following the expulsion of the Jesuits, administration of the parish was transferred to the Recollects a year after.Originally built in 1595, and razed to the ground by a fire in 1798 - the present Cathedral of San Jose in Tagbilaran City boasts of two side altars in the18th century Baroque style, and a central altar done in 19th century Neoclassical style.The statue of Saint Joseph, the patron saint of the church, is apparently of 18th century vintage.
This Chirch is lacated at the heart of the city. It was a nice solemn Mass we attended, with a nurturing active community that was welcoming to tourist visitors like us.
