Having tried all the others I don't hesitate claiming this is the best dim sum in Miami, PERIOD! Well at least my Cantonese wife and some members of her family think so, as do I. Sure limp noodles, so called food critics and wanna be foodies will tell you South Garden and Tropical are better. Maybe they enjoy the lukewarm food off of carts prepared 6 hours ago option. A recent New Times article listing the best dim sum places in Miami actually had the audacity to list Kon Chau as #1. Laughable seeing as how I couldn't even finish my meal there. Preferring to actually stop eating to get a hot dog across the street(no joke). But I'm told they used to be good. Canton finished in a respectable 4th on their list. Maybe Canton's anonymity and obscure location out west on 8th Street prevent dim sum lovers from going. If not for Yelp and the ability to check in, my friends, family and I would probably still be referring to it as simply "8th Street". Alright enough fluff, here's why Canton is so good. Dim Sum is made to order, ensuring the proper crispiness, sponginess, freshness, deliciousness of every plate. They hand you a long, distinguished, extensive list of dim sum and you go to town ordering as much as you heart desires. Everything is good however my favorite dim sum dishes are the fried spring rolls, shrimp balls, clams in black bean sauce, chicken feet, pan seared chive dumpling and congee. They also have great dishes to accompany dim sum, most notably the pork stuffed bitter melon, beef chow fun(best in this city to date), and my absolute favorite, something called lo sui ping on. I'm not sure it has an American translation and most dim sum restaurants here don't even bother making this dish. It's a tofu and fish paste dish that resembles a Chinese omelette filled with shrimp, mushrooms, and green onion. It's soft egg like texture makes it the perfect side dish for Dim sum. They know me here, so even when I'm not with my Chinese family they usually say "I know you
