Hotel New Star Ikebukuro

This was my 4th stay at this hotel, and it definitely won’t be my last. Every visit has been consistently excellent, which is why I keep coming back. I went outside Tokyo for a brief visit and asked if I can leave my luggage for a few days since I will be checking back in again. They were happy to keep it for me. Really appreciate the service! The location is one of the biggest advantages—it’s incredibly convenient, especially with the Narita Airport Express Bus stop nearby, making airport transfers quick and hassle-free. It’s also close to restaurants, convenience stores, shopping, and public transportation, making it an ideal base for exploring the area. The rooms are always clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. The staff are friendly, welcoming, and professional, always providing excellent service and making me feel at home. Check-in and check-out are smooth, and the overall atmosphere is quiet, relaxing, and comfortable. I really appreciate the hotel’s consistency in quality, cleanliness, and hospitality. It’s a place I can always rely on whenever I visit. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a comfortable and convenient stay. One suggestion for improvement would be to provide more laundry facilities inside the hotel. The current laundry area is located outside the main building, which can feel a bit less secure and is slightly inconvenient, especially during bad weather or when doing laundry late in the evening. Having additional indoor laundry machines would make an already great stay even better. Looking forward to my next stay—I’ll definitely be back again!

Air con was not very cooling during our stay. Feedback to staff and they just told us you can just leave and we will refund you. What kind of attitude is this? Stay away. We booked two rooms with different check in dates. 1 room required us to pay city tax, 1 room did not. Again, this felt dubious as we had to pay in cash or couldn’t get our room. We asked for receipts and staff said they are unable to provide a receipt. Foreigner, beware.

Hotel New Star Ikebukuro is a decent option if you're looking for a convenient and reasonably priced stay in Tokyo. The room size was adequate by Tokyo standards and had enough space for a comfortable stay. The location is a big plus. It's less than a 10-minute walk from Ikebukuro Station's West Exit, with Bic Camera and Don Quijote nearby for shopping. There are also several convenience stores, including 7-Eleven and Lawson, within a short walk. If you need to do laundry, there's a laundromat about three minutes away, and the hotel also has laundry facilities in the building. The main downside is that the hotel is quite dated. While the room appeared acceptable at first glance, a closer look revealed a lot of dust, and there was visible mold in the bathroom. The cleanliness could definitely be improved. Overall, the location and convenience make it a reasonable choice for budget-conscious travellers, but don't expect modern facilities or spotless accommodations.

Great stay, even better service. Downside is old, you get what you pay for so manage your expectations. Service is great though, can't deny.
