Wish there was more there
Only a portion of one wall left and that was moved into its present location. Some placards with interesting historical information. Too bad more of the prison is not there but still worth a stop.
replanted blocks from further up the hill; best way to appreciate this very small exhibit would be to read about the prison, the Smallpox outbreak and the atrocities the prisoners experience here. qui...
Don't Get Too Excited... It's just two partial, broken walls
I drove by this place while visiting my hometown after being away for 10 years. Yup, the Alton Prison "walls" are still there... but, if you are looking for a historic building, don't bother visiting...
There really is not much left of the building and only a few signs. It is hidden off the beaten path and you would have to know where it was. There is free street parking available. It was a good stop...
A confederate history must, There isn't much there any longer, but the history behind the place and stories attached to it, makes a great place to stop.
