Upon arrival, check-in at reception was smooth. We were provided with our room key and directed to our accommodation, which required us to drive to the other side of the estate. However, when we reached the room, the key did not work. We walked back to reception, where we were informed that a network issue had prevented the key from being properly programmed. The receptionist, who was very helpful, offered to accompany us to the room and opened it using a master key. She assured us that a functioning key would be delivered as soon as the network was restored.
Upon entering the room, we immediately noticed that it had not been cleaned. The window sill was sticky with what appeared to be beverage spills, the floor was dirty, the bathroom mats were not fresh, and most concerning, there were rat droppings on the window sill, on the floor behind the curtains, and behind the door. I contacted reception to request housekeeping and asked to speak with a manager, as the condition of the room was unacceptable. A housekeeping staff member arrived, but I requested that cleaning not proceed until the housekeeping manager assessed the situation. The manager quickly confirmed that the room had indeed not been cleaned and that there were clear signs of rodent activity. She apologised sincerely, asked us to wait while the room was cleaned, and said she would escalate the matter to the rooms division. While waiting on the terrace outside, we noticed a mouse in the bushes, which explained the droppings found inside.
After the room was cleaned, the manager returned, apologised again, and informed us that a complimentary bottle of wine had been arranged for us. We told her about the mouse we had seen and expressed that we did not feel comfortable staying in that room. She went back to speak with the rooms division, and we waited in the bar. An hour later, she returned with keys to a new room and directed us there. The replacement room was clean, though the entire experience made for a rocky start to our stay.
The following day, after breakfast, we returned to our room to find that the terrace doors had been removed and two maintenance staff were working. This came as an unexpected surprise, as no one had informed us that repairs would be taking place. We decided to return to the bar to allow the work to be completed. As we were celebrating a birthday that day, the housekeeping manager kindly arranged for our room to be decorated with a birthday message.
From that point onward, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay thanks to the exceptional customer service at the restaurants, bars, and spa. In particular, we would like to recognise Moses, Regal, and Tebogo at Kingsley Restaurant; Sibongile at Granatas; and Mandy at the spa for their outstanding hospitality. They truly made our stay memorable.
Overall, despite the challenges we experienced upon arrival, we had a lovely stay. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making my mother’s birthday special.

Guest UserPros: First of all the service I got from the receptionist was really good, she had someone carry my bags to the room and the location of the hotel is close to the airport which is very convenient for traveling after your stay.
Cons: The room had a strong smell of paint, it was so bad I couldn't even breathe as all the windows were closed upon my arrival.
The pillow cases in the bedroom didn't look clean to me I used my clothes to lay my face on because it was just nasty.
The shower is not convenient to use, it's too small and you cannot move the shower head to a desired position.
There was no fan or airconditioner in the bedroom, it was really hot.
The furniture is outdated, some couches with holes in them it's a mess
Overall, I will not sleep here ever again! The money charged is clearly just for being close to the airport because it is too much for that room.

A Truly Exceptional Stay at Fairlawns Boutique Hotel
My recent stay at Fairlawns Boutique Hotel in Johannesburg was nothing short of outstanding. From the moment I arrived, I felt enveloped in an atmosphere of calm, luxury, and genuine hospitality. This is the kind of property that doesn’t just meet expectations — it elevates them.
I was booked into one of the Villa Suites, and it was an experience in itself. The suite was beautifully appointed, spacious, and thoughtfully designed, blending elegance with comfort in a way that felt both indulgent and homely. Every detail from the plush furnishings to the serene garden views contributed to a sense of effortless relaxation. It truly felt like a private sanctuary.
The service throughout my stay was impeccable. Staff members were warm, attentive, and intuitive without ever being intrusive. Whether it was assistance with luggage, dining recommendations, or simply a friendly check‑in to ensure everything was perfect, the team consistently delivered with professionalism and charm.
The hotel grounds are equally impressive. Lush, tranquil, and meticulously maintained, they create a peaceful escape that feels worlds away from the bustle of the city. It’s the ideal setting for unwinding, whether by the pool, in the spa, or simply strolling through the gardens.
Dining at Fairlawns was another highlight. The food was beautifully presented and full of flavour, with a menu that balances creativity and comfort. Every meal felt like a treat.
Overall, Fairlawns Boutique Hotel offers an exceptional blend of luxury, privacy, and heartfelt hospitality. My stay in the Villa Suite was unforgettable, and I would recommend this hotel without hesitation to anyone seeking a refined and restorative escape in Johannesburg.

Reception faced a crisis when their servers broke down. The staff remained helpful and friendly throughout, despite being overwhelmed with large numbers of visitors. The hotel is well maintained and clean

I had a good stay at The Catalyst Hotel. The hotel is clean, comfortable, and well located. The staff was friendly and helpful throughout my stThe breakfast was really good, with a nice variety of options every morning. I also really enjoyed the free shuttle service to Sandton Mall , it was very convenient and made getting around much easier.
The only small downside was the balcony in my room. It was quite small, to the point that I couldn’t even fit a chair there. But overall, I still had a very pleasant experience and would recommend the hotel.

The hotel is in a good location, but the room was quite small for the price. Service was also disappointing, you can wait endlessly for staff to attend to you. They often promise to come back, but they never do.

Guest UserHotel is rated at 5star but the amenities are quite average. The standard king size room is smaller than I have experience in some other hotels if that range. You do not find water glasses in the room. Room service is very slow and sometimes your call will just keep transferring between room service and reception if you needed something. If you ordered food in your room, you have to make payment immediately. It does not amount up to check out. There is only one restaurant, one cafe in the hotel. You can walk up to nearest restaurant for your food that is 800m away.Pool is there but you have to carry your own towel. The day we arrived, there was a birthday party around the pool with loud music. We avoided going to pool side. Shoe shiner is in the lobby and if you get your shoes cleaned he needs to be paid as compliment and that complement begins with 100rand minimum. To me it’s an average hotel and ok for a couple of days. It had some conference going on so extra crowd was also in the lobby for the two days we stayed If you are looking for a luxery experience, better choose another hotel. This hotel is ok for not more than two days of stay.

wuhanwolfWhile the property itself is a little dated, it honestly fades into the background because the staff service is exceptional. From check-in to departure, everyone was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, which made the entire stay feel effortless. The complimentary airport shuttle runs every 15 minutes and was perfectly on time, making transfers to and from OR Tambo stress-free. And the breakfast — wow. Easily one of the highlights of the stay. A generous spread, well prepared, fresh, and honestly to die for. Overall, a really solid, comfortable hotel that delivers where it matters most: service, convenience, and food. Will be back again.

The location is spectacular. The rooms are good value for money. I liked my stay a lot. The only thing is if you’re booked into a room further away, you must know that if it is raining you have to walk outside and to the entrance to fetch your food orders or get your uber — only downside.
