Whether you are a beginner or an experienced artist, this class offers a fresh and inspiring approach to printmaking.
During this printmaking class, participants will learn the art of linocut printing with a twist - all creations will be combined to form a beautiful zine centered around a chosen theme. Linocut printmaking is a versatile and accessible medium suitable for artists of all levels. The skills acquired in this workshop can be easily continued at home with minimal equipment, making it an ideal skill for artists looking to explore printmaking beyond the classroom.
Participants will gain hands-on experience with the tools and materials required for linocut printing, including linoleum blocks, carving tools, inks, and paper. Together, the class will brainstorm and select a theme for the zine, and each person will create their own unique design. Techniques for transferring images onto linoleum blocks, planning compositions, and adding intricate details will be taught. Various carving techniques will also be explored to achieve different textures, depths, and shading in prints.
The workshop will culminate in collaborative printing on a small press, as well as individual printing by hand. At the end of the class, each participant will take home a copy of the zine, featuring their print along with the prints of others.
This workshop is suitable for teens (15-19), adults (20 and up), beginners, practicing artists, and educators. It will take place on March 16th and 17th at the Harwood Art Center.
