The 2nd Annual East Oakland Vocal Festival will be held at Castlemont High School in Oakland on April 24, 2024. Organized by Elevate Oakland and Town Business Inc., the event aims to showcase over 100 talented vocal students from various East Oakland schools within the Oakland Unified School District. Admission to the festival is free of charge, with the option to make a donation at checkout to support the East Oakland Vocal Program. This initiative, led by OUSD educator Keenan Foster in collaboration with Elevate Oakland and the school district, offers vocal and choral music classes to students across elementary, middle, and high schools. The program emphasizes a long-term commitment to music education, drawing inspiration from the rich history of choral music in East Oakland, including the renowned Castlemont Castleers choral group. By nurturing young talent, the East Oakland Vocal Program aims to follow in the footsteps of successful musicians who emerged from the local choral music scene.
