Truro
Gail Porter, a renowned TV presenter, has embarked on a new and exciting venture in the world of comedy. With her rising profile, Gail's career has taken a rollercoaster ride, and she's currently basking in the success of her hilarious stand-up show. After an impressive run of 31 sold-out shows at The Edinburgh Fringe, Gail is now taking her talents on tour, including a stop in Truro. This one-woman show, titled "Hung, Drawn & Portered," has captivated audiences with its poignant and side-splitting humor.
Gail's decision to delve into comedy stems from her desire to regain control of her own narrative. Known for her vibrancy as well as her struggles with mental health, she fearlessly addresses personal topics on stage, inviting her audience to connect and laugh along. Her show is a documentation of her life experiences, providing a liberating platform for her to share stories about homelessness, hair loss, and even her time in a psychiatric unit.
The spark of Gail's comedic journey ignited when she collaborated with stand-up comedians John Bishop and Tony Pitts for their Fringe show, "Three Little Words." The infectious laughter they shared inspired Gail to embrace her own comedic prowess and create her own show.
Gail's career has seen its fair share of ups and downs. A former TV host in the 1990s, she gained recognition through programs like "Fully Booked," "Top Of The Pops," and "Wish You Were Here." However, her trajectory changed dramatically in 1999 when she unexpectedly found herself plastered on the Houses of Parliament after posing nude for FHM magazine. Subsequently, alopecia took a toll on her TV career, abruptly transforming her appearance. Undeterred, Gail decided against wearing a wig, opting to embrace her baldness instead.
Despite the challenges, Gail's journey has provided her with an abundance of humorous material. As she continues to navigate the comedy scene, her rising profile promises an exciting future. Catch Gail Porter's Edinburgh Fringe show, "Hung, Drawn & Portered," as she brings it to Truro's Old Bakery Studios on April 6, 2024.
