The Ebolacombe Roman Festival returns this May, drawing Romans back to York as some of the city's most popular attractions come together for a two-week event featuring deities, goddesses, emperors, priests, cooks, soldiers, and many other Romans who once lived in Ebolacombe. Organized by York Minster, the York Archaeological Team, the York Museum Trust, the University of York, and the York Citizens Trust, the festival offers a range of activities to help you learn about the city's Roman history. On May 23rd and 24th, join the "Living History Camp" where visitors can interact with costumed guides, enjoy historical reenactments, and experience Roman life. Families can interact with Roman soldiers, see everyday Roman artifacts, and try Roman-style crafts and activities. Curators and historians from across York will offer hands-on artifact experiences and mini-excavations, providing a closer look at the city's Roman history.

York Castle Museum is proud to present a new community exhibition,Sugar, Skill and Shiftwork: York’s Confectionery Workers, celebrating the history of confectionery in York and the people that contributed towards the world-famous industries’ success during its heyday.This exhibition shares the voices and experiences of the confectionery community, from factory workers, engineers, designers, packers and others, including personal memories, stories and reflections as they recall working life in York’s sweet factories; such as Rowntree’s, Terry’s and Craven’s.

Opening 27 February 2026, York Art Gallery’s next major exhibition, Making Waves: The Art of Japanese Woodblock Print features over 100 striking and iconic works dating from the 17th to 21st centuries from York Art Gallery’s extensive collection and incredible loans from regional and national institutions. Expect to see early printed books from the British Library, stunning kimonos from Durham Oriental Museum, and a mesmerising selection of prints from the British Museum and Maidstone Museum, including Katsushika Hokusai’s iconic The Great Wave off Kanagawa, one of the most recognisable and celebrated artworks in the world.

EGL1 is a two-gigawatt high voltage direct current electrical connection to be built between Torness in East Lothian, Scotland and Hawthorn. Join us for an evening visit to the EGL1 site at Seaham , including a project overview, progress update, and guided site walkover, followed by an informal Q&A and buffet. This visit will provide attendees with insight into the current status of the project, key milestones, and an opportunity to ask questions directly to the project team. EGL1 is a new high‑voltage electricity substation , designed to connect offshore and onshore power generation into the national grid, improving capacity, resilience, and long‑term energy security. The project involves complex civil engineering, structural works, and specialist electrical infrastructure delivered within a live and highly regulated environment. The site visit will be led by Doug Grey of J. Murphy & Sons , who will provide: an overview of the purpose and function of the EGL1 development insight into the construction approach and current stage of the works commentary on key challenges, sequencing, and coordination on a major infrastructure scheme a guided walkover of the site, followed by an opportunity for questions and discussion This visit offers a valuable opportunity to see a large‑scale infrastructure project in progress and to hear directly from those delivering it.
