ShAFF Film Club - Weak Layers - Regather | Regather

ShAFF Film Club is an opportunity to watch amazing adventure films and socialise with other adventure film lovers over a beer. Regather CoOperative is a hidden gem, tucked away behind London Road, it has a cute bar serving its own brewed beer, and a cosy 40-seater cinema space. ShAFF has a long history of vibrant film nights here and will be using the space as a venue for showing some of the amazing films which didn't make the busy festival programme in March, but quite definitely deserve an airing. Weak Layers 91 mins In 1984 a new film subgenre was born – the ski comedy. Birthed on the slopes of what was then called Squaw Valley, Hot Dog…The Movie quickly became a cult hit and spawned two decades worth of followers. From Ski Patrol to Aspen Extreme, Ski School to Better Off Dead, the list of classics goes on and on…until it doesn’t. In the ever-changing Hollywood shuffle the genre has been lost as of late, but certainly not forgotten by legions of fans worldwide. No better time than the present for resurrection. Our feature, Weak Layers, is a progressive throwback to the cult classics. A female-driven ski comedy set at Lake Tahoe that follows three passionate and lovably rowdy local women on a quest to win a world famous 72-hour short ski film competition. The film dissects modern ski culture while championing the tight-knit local communities found in ski towns the world throughout. If ever there was an ode to mountain town life, this is it. The film is directed by and stars Katie Burrell (Dream Job, Coach), a trailblazing auteur in the mountain sports comedy world. Her breakout film, Dream Job, was an international theatrical success and sold to Amazon Studios, and cemented her status as darling of the outdoor sports world. Realizations Films (Buried, Disrupted, United States of Insanity) is the Tahoe-based production company behind the project, and dedicated to highlighting mountain culture and community in cinema. Their most recent feature film project, Buried, highlighting the story behind the 1982 avalanche at Alpine Meadows, was commercially released in late 2022 and now available on Netflix.

Breath and Bass - Full Moon Party | R1SE Yoga, Napier Street, Sharrow, Sheffield, UK
Feb 8, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
Sheffield
Breath and Bass: The Full Moon PartyGet ready to experience Sheffield's one-and-only Drum & Bass Breathwork journey! This isn’t just an event; it’s a powerful exploration of body, mind, and soul under the high vibrations of Drum & Bass music. Join us for an unforgettable evening at R1SE Yoga as we combine transformative breathwork with the electrifying energy of Drum & Bass. Guided by Macaulay Sutton, a certified Wim Hof Instructor, and supported by Lauren, a space holder and sound healer. this is your opportunity to reconnect with yourself, release what no longer serves you, and feel truly alive. We’ll begin by grounding ourselves with an energizer to prepare the body for what’s to come. Then, through conscious breathing techniques, you’ll enter a heightened state of awareness. This is where the magic happens—Drum & Bass beats drive the session, allowing you to push past your limits, access deep emotional release, and feel the profound effects of getting high on your own supply. To close, relax and surrender to the soothing frequencies of crystal sound bowls, creating a perfect balance of high energy and deep restoration. This event is designed to be a safe and supportive space for transformation. Breathwork can be a powerful tool, giving us access to the subconscious and unlocking emotions we might not even realize we’ve been holding onto. It allows for healing on a deep level, helping us let go of the past and step into our true power. It’s important to note that this process can bring up a range of emotions. While some may feel joy, bliss, and pure presence, others might encounter feelings of sadness, anger, or irritation as they lean into the discomfort of releasing repressed emotions. Both are equally valuable parts of the healing journey. If you feel uncertain or would like to talk before attending, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Myself and Lauren are here to support you at every step. You can contact us directly at 07533 569955. This is your opportunity to explore your inner landscape, release what’s holding you back, and connect with a like-minded community in a space of transformation and empowerment.

Tarot & the Writing Path - Part 2 | Orchard Square
Jul 5, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
Sheffield
This workshop is designed to follow on from Part 1. If you haven’t yet done Part 1, check the Writers Workshop event schedule to sign up. In the first of these workshops, we used the tarot as a means of idea generation, looking at character creation and personality traits, setting, and inciting incidents. Part 2 will build on this by using the tarot to determine plot events, twists and turns, and interactions between the protagonist and other characters you’ll introduce to your story. The chance element of the cards will assist with story planning, and also bring spontaneity that will open up new creative avenues of thought and action. As well as the practical tarot element there will be timed writing exercises, and also plenty of time for discussion and questions. The workshop is suitable for beginner and intermediate writers also interested in tarot, whether you're looking for ways to start enhancing your writing using the cards, or you're interested in deepening an existing relationship. If you have a tarot deck of your own, feel free to bring it, but don't worry if not as I will bring a few decks along on the day. I find the variations in style and art work on the cards to be helpful inspiration, and I want you to experience this too! Prerequisite: to have attended Tarot & the Writing Path part 1. Please bring your notes from the first session as we’ll be using these to start off the timed writing exercises. About the tutor: Jools Warner is a novelist and tarot reader based in Sheffield. As a novelist, she writes fantasy fiction and paranormal romance for adults, and spooky stuff for younger readers. She did an MA in Creative Writing at Sheffield Hallam University, graduating in 2022 with Distinction. Her debut novel Ernie and the Mage-Killer was published in 2024 with Bellows Press, and her second novel, Shadow on Darkling Edge, will be published in 2026 with Sul Books.
