The 6th Annual Tap Day Celebration will take place in Calgary, Alberta, on May 18-19, 2024, at the esteemed venue of Decidedly Jazz Danceworks. Organized by Tasha Lawson of Tri-Tone Productions in collaboration with Decidedly Jazz Danceworks, this event brings together over 100 talented Tap Dancers from across Alberta to pay tribute to the late Bill Bojangles Robinson. The focus of the weekend is to foster a vibrant and inclusive tap dance community, showcasing new works and advancing the art of rhythm tap in Alberta. The event offers a variety of activities, including workshops, classes, a live music tap jam, and two concert performances featuring studio submissions, independent artists, and the Tri-Tone Rhythm Ensemble. Attendees will also have the opportunity to witness an excerpt from "Paying the Dues," a compelling piece created by Jordyn Lemire during a residency at DJD. This internationally acclaimed event attracts participants and enthusiasts from around the world, underscoring the enduring popularity and cultural significance of tap dance.
