Experience the captivating performance of "A Tree in Time" at Lawrence Batley Theatre in Huddersfield. This enchanting dance and storytelling session, accompanied by live Tabla music, draws inspiration from the incredible true story of Saalumarada Thimmakka. Despite being born in a remote village without access to formal education, Saalumarada devoted her life to planting trees. Her tireless efforts have resulted in the planting of over 8,000 trees, including 385 banyan trees, the national tree of India. With unwavering dedication, Saalumarada used to carry pails of water for kilometers each day to nourish the saplings. Recognizing her remarkable contributions, Saalumarada was honored with the prestigious Padma Shri award by the government of India in 2019. 

Presented by the magical Annapurna Indian Dance company, founded by artistic director Shantha Rao, this performance not only showcases the beauty of dance but also raises awareness about environmental conservation. Annapurna Indian Dance has consistently incorporated environmental conversations into their projects, emphasizing the urgency of addressing the Climate Crisis and promoting sustainable practices.
