Details

The renowned Art & Soul festival in Indianapolis has been a staple event to kick off Black History Month since 1996. However, now you can enjoy this celebration of Black culture and creativity year-round with the all-new Art & Soul Sundays. Held at the prestigious Indianapolis Artsgarden, this weekly gathering is a time for everyone to come together and enjoy soulful music and dance. It's the perfect way to get your week started–On the Good Foot! Best of all, all events are free and family friendly. The Art & Soul Sundays schedule is packed with captivating performances. On July 16, be sure to catch "Str8 Up Frederick Douglass," a unique hip hop play featuring original content, music, and dance inspired by the life and legacy of the prophet and freedom fighter. Presented by the Asante Art Institute, this event promises to be an unforgettable experience. Other highlights include Basement Dance Complex and African American Dance Company from IU Bloomington on August 20, improvisational jazz saxophonist Jerome Saxton on September 10, and blues acoustic duo Scrapper and Skelton on October 15. The November 12 event titled "Black Resistance and the Beloved Community: Songs of Faith, Hope and Joy" will be presented by Witherspoon Presbyterian Church, the Performing Arts Conservatory, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Indianapolis, and Zora's Daughters of the Asante Art Institute of Indianapolis. Don't miss out on the opportunity to experience the rich traditions and talents of Black artists and performers at Art & Soul Sundays. Make your way to the Indianapolis Artsgarden, conveniently located in the Circle Centre Mall area, for an afternoon filled with soulful entertainment. And remember, parking is available in the Circle Centre Mall garages, with the Red Garage entrance on Washington St. being the only exception. The Art & Soul program is proudly supported annually by Lilly Endowment Inc.
