The Braiding Water: Closing Celebration is an unforgettable beachside event that marks the end of the Braiding Water series. This enriching and lively celebration aims to honor the beauty of water and its significance in our lives. Guests can expect a captivating drum circle, a thought-provoking moderated discussion, complimentary wine tastings, delectable appetizers, soul-stirring music, and an opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals. One of the highlights of the program is the showcase of drawings, poems, and oral histories created by students from California Men’s Colony, who are enrolled in Cuesta College ETHN 230 Introduction to Social Justice and Ethnic Studies. These talented individuals will share their unique perspectives on how water has influenced their lives, families, and cultural traditions. The event will take place on the outdoor terrace at the picturesque SeaCrest OceanFront Hotel, conveniently located in Pismo Beach, California. The doors will open at 6:00 pm, allowing guests to indulge in wine tastings, while the festivities officially kick off at 6:30 pm with an invigorating drum circle led by R.A.C.E. Matters Artist in Residence, Tracy Morgan. The talking water moderated discussion will commence at 7:00 pm and will feature esteemed panelists including Victoire Prothro, Moderator and Program Director at Diversity Coalition; Justin Trabue, Owner and Wine Witch at Ward Four Wines; Demetrio Morales Salazar, Multilingual Outreach Coordinator at the County of SLO; Rita Casaverde, Executive Director of Diversity Coalition and Fisherwoman; Dr. Mario Espinoza Kulick, Advocate, Poet, Author, and Professor of Cuesta College ETHN 230 Introduction to Social Justice and Ethnic Studies; and Haylee Bautista, a dedicated advocate for the Northern Chumash Tribal Marine Protection. Don't miss out on this remarkable event that celebrates the power and significance of water in our lives. Attendance is free, so mark your calendars for October 21, 2023, and immerse yourself in an evening of inspiration and connection at the Braiding Water: Closing Celebration in Pismo Beach.
