We often freeze at the vast space or the volume of the blank notebook or computer screen and doubt ourselves. In this workshop, we will look at ways to boost our creativity. We'll start by listening to how other writers and poets encounter the white page and look at ways to get the pen to release your stories, and get the keyboard tapping away. Then we'll discuss the Power Hour – getting the writing muscle working so that it becomes a habit, before moving on to explore how and what to write. The workshop will be led by Roy McFarlane. Royis a Poet, Writer and former Youth & Community Worker born in Birmingham of Jamaican parentage, spending most of his years living in Wolverhampton and the Black Country and now living in Brighton. He is currently the National Canal Laureate. He’s the former Birmingham Poet Laureate and Starbucks Poet in Residence and co-editor of Celebrate Wha? Ten Black British Poets from the Midlands (Smokestack). His three collections are published by Nine Arches Press: Beginning With Your Last Breath and The Healing Next Time (shortlisted for the Ted Hughes Award and longlisted for the Jhalak Prize) and his third collection Living by Troubled Waters is out now. Roy has been made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and was awarded a Doctor of Letters by the University of Wolverhampton. He continues to perform nationally and internationally sharing his passion for social justice, equality, identity love and the healing power of poetry as a witness to our times. The session will be held at the Jubilee Library in Brighton and will run from 10-4pm with an hour for lunch. The venue is wheelchair accessible, near the train station and bus routes and with plenty of options for lunch – including bringing your own. The workshop is part of a series of one-day masterclasses held this Easter. They are open to existing students on the Creative Writing Programme and other writers looking to improve specific areas of their writing craft. You can book onto as many workshops as you choose. The Easter masterclasses run from 10-4pm each day: • Friday 4th April – Managing Pace: Beth Miller (in-person in the Jubilee Library,Brighton) £75 including VAT. • Saturday 5th April – Boosting your creativity: Roy McFarlane (in-person in the Jubilee Library, Brighton) £75 including VAT • Sunday 6th April – Creating memorable characters: Laura Wilkinson (in-person in the Jubilee Library, Brighton) £75 including VAT • Saturday 12th April: Placemaking – creating great places: Rosie Chard (online) £65 including VAT • Sunday13th April: Imagery, Symbolism and Metaphor in Prose – John McCullough (online) £65 including VAT First year students on the Creative Writing Programme and Life Writing Programme receive two free masterclasses a year. My friends who study in the local area told me that this Jubilee Library is their favorite for international students, because the seats are very comfortable, the overall environment is also very good, the lighting is sufficient, the sun can shine in, and the environment is very good. The collection volume is also very rich.

We were there on a weekend and mainly walked outside, looking at the gardens and the architecture. We didn&rsquo;t go inside as their hours of operation didn&rsquo;t coincide with the time we were there and had available. Great place to stroll, people watch, or have a picnic, weather permitting.

Had my first date here with my partner and we hadthe best time. An amazing aquarium with abeautiful atmosphere, lights and gorgeouscreatures! I love animals and fish and seeing themhere was wonderful. Staff were lovely and veryknowledgeable. The place was clean, easy tonavigate and extremely ambient and beautiful. We went on a Thursday afternoon so was pretty quiet!

more like a downtown touristy place with many cafes and cosmetic shops. very easy to get lost while looking for some place on maps. almost did when i was lookong for Mac cosmetics...you will find Jo Malone, Bobby Brown and Mac cosmetics all in one small area. and coffee shops too. on my second attempt i was looking for pizza express and i almost missed it. hehehh the lanes is one place that gets you wondering what exactly is going on with your maps application. definately recomend you to not miss it while in brighton. on your way to lanes you will meet Tmax the famous brand discount shop and boy, you will thank me then.
