The Hustle String Quartet, a Melbourne-based ensemble, is set to make its debut recital alongside two other groups, a piano quintet and a piano trio. Founded as an extension of the University of Melbourne's Engineering Music Society, the quartet comprises Yong See Foo and Sharon Wang on violins, Ben Gibson on viola, and Tom Woodrow-Smith on cello. Their performance will encompass a diverse range of pieces spanning several centuries, from the 1700s to the 2000s. Notable compositions on their program include Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's String Quartet No. 4 in C Major, Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy's String Quartet No. 1 in Eb Major, Percy Grainger's "Molly on the Shore," and Joe Hisaishi's "Merry-Go-Round of Life" (arranged by Yong See Foo). These works not only represent the evolution of classical music throughout history but also showcase various cultural identities, including Western European, Jewish, Australian, and Asian influences. Additionally, the recital will feature the talented piano trio of Ben Gibson, Katniss Li, and Katelyn Woodyat, who are studying violin, piano, and cello respectively at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. The trio will captivate the audience with their renditions of Faure/Shostakovich's piano trio (1) and Rachmaninoff's Trio Elegiaque No. 1.
