Join us for a lunchtime talk at The University of Chicago’s Center for the Study of Race, Politics & Culture. Critically-acclaimed Oaxaca-based poet Irma Pineda will share readings from her trilingual Isthmus Zapotec/Spanish/English collection, Nostalgia Doesn’t Flow Away Like River Water (Deep Vellum, 2024), translated to English by Wendy Call. Following the reading, Pineda and Call will discuss the process of translation and bilingual writing, advocacy of the preservation of indigenous languages and cultures in Mexico, and the place of poetry in activist work. Hosted and moderated by Associate Professor of English and Comparative Literature, Rachel Galvin. A light lunch will be provided. Presented in Partnership with The University of Chicago’s Translation Studies, the Center for the Study of Race, Politics & Culture, and the Department of Race, Diaspora, and Indigeneity, UIC’s Center for Latinx Literature of the Americas, and the Consulate General of Mexico in Chicago Acompáñanos a una charla de mediodía en el Center for the Study of Race, Politics & Culture de la University of Chicago. The 11th annual Lit & Luz Festival of Language, Literature, and Art—as featured in Publishers Weekly, Chicago Review of Books, Block Club Chicago, and more—takes place October 26 to November 2. This one-of-a-kind cross-cultural, bilingual festival brings together writers and visual artists from Mexico and Chicago for a week-long series of public programming at venues throughout Chicago. Inspired by the media landscape of both presidential elections taking place in the countries this year, the theme of the festival is “Saturation/Saturación.” Participants will consider concepts such as intensity, combination, absorption, maximums and limitations as they respond to the urgent political, social, and environmental issues confronting both countries.

It&#39;s worth visiting, but the price is a bit high, so it doesn&#39;t feel like great value for money. There&#39;s a slanted window inside that offers a downward view of the city, but that costs extra. Overall, it doesn&#39;t feel like good value for money.

Grant Park is also a good place to visit for free. The most common people you see are locals doing outdoor sports. Running is very popular and can be seen at different times of the day. There are also some people walking their dogs.
